Beyond the Veil

i KNOW some of you know where this is going... and you are correct ;)

It was strange- the Sith artifact.

None of them knew exactly what it was supposed to be. It looked like a silky fabric made entirely of smoke- a veil.

The Force was strange around it, and it almost seemed as if something (or someone, for that matter) was behind it.

But that was impossible; they could clearly see the other side, and there was nothing but open space there.

It had to be some sort of trick- a distraction, maybe.

Ahsoka was unsure of when she felt the presence of her masters wash over her, but in an instant Anakin was at her side, joking around with her as he always did in battle. It helped relieve the stress of it for both of them.

If Anakin, Master Kenobi, and Master Plo hadn't arrived around her, Rex, Fives, and Echo when they did, then they would certainly all have been dead by now.

She would thank them later, after the battle was over.

The veil glistened as the reflection of their lightsabers washed over it.

Anakin glanced to the side, smirking at Ahsoka as they wound up fighting side by side again (they'd been separated for a few seconds beforehand).

She smiled back at him, knowing that they both always fought better when they were together.

Ventress was the one that they had locked eyes on, quickly deciding that the person leading this attack was their target.

Ahsoka grunted with the effort of slicing down three droids at the same time, earning a proud clap on the back from her master.

"Nice one, Snips!" he yelled over the chaotic noise.

Ahsoka beamed, though the grin was quickly erased when Ventress caught a glance of the duo's focus on her.

"Aw, come on!" Anakin shouted boldly as she ran at him, her lightsaber missing him by a hair. "You can do better than that!"

The next thing Ahsoka knew, he was knocked backwards- the result of a Force push. She turned to the side to help him back up, but her whole body went cold at the sight.

Anakin was drifting back slowly, falling into the smoke of the veil.

But that was okay, right?

He would just fall out on the other side, right?

He did not.

Ahsoka's scream rippled through the ears of everyone in the room, and she was barely aware of Obi-Wan's arms wrapping around her stomach, holding her back as she attempted to run after her brother.

She didn't remember crying, but she could feel the tears staining her cheeks.

She didn't remember screaming at the top of her lungs, but she could feel the rawness of her throat as she wrestled against Obi-Wan's hold.

She slumped forward, sobbing as she yelled incoherent words at the space where Anakin had been moments before.

Her lips numbly tried to shout for him to come back.

But he did not.

And he never would.

She could hear Ventress's victorious cry of,

"I killed Anakin Skywalker!"

Ahsoka saw red.

She was going to kill her.
