Chapter Three

"Diego!" Marcel called out when we got inside the compound.

Diego appeared in the middle of the compound. "Yeah?"

"Can you show Rose her room? I gotta take care of something." He said vaguely, then disappeared before Diego had a chance to reply.

Diego stared at me for a moment, then pointed to the staircase. "It's upstairs."

I nodded, and he led me up the stairs. When we reached the top, however, I slowly turned my head back to look at the center of the compound.

There were so many memories of this place. Most of them were great, but some were bad. Even so, all of them included Elijah, Klaus, and Rebekah. Three of the very few people that I truly cared for. And none of which were here with me. I missed them.

"Hey," Diego said, turning to face me as he stood as he stared at me silently. "You okay?"

I nodded slowly. "I'm fine."

He went down the hallway, and took me to my room at the end of the passageway. "Here it is." He muttered, moving aside so that I could walk in.

I walked into the room, and he leaned on the doorframe with his arms crossed over his chest. I wondered why he was still here, but didn't question it until I could feel his eyes on my back.

"Did you need something?" I asked curiously.

"You lied." He said, his face stone cold. "You're not fine."

I was about to argue, then sighed. He was right, and I didn't feel like coming up with an excuse that said otherwise. I nodded, and he walked into the room. I sat down on the large queen sized bed that was against the wall opposite to the door, staring down at my hands as he sat down beside me.

"This is the first time that I've ever been away from Klaus."

"Just Klaus?" He muttered.

I nodded. "Yes. He daggered Rebekah and Elijah for years at a time, but I stayed with him throughout those years. We were always together."

"Together?" He asked, an eyebrow raised.

"He is the closest thing that I have to a brother." I said, sighing softly as I adjusted myself to lean against the headboard. "I was born in what would be now called Italy in 1100. My family died when I was young, and I lived on my own for a very long time. I didn't have anyone to care for, so I was able to focus on magic and become one of the strongest witches in Europe. I was fourteen when I first I met him. He was attacked by a few witches that were afraid of the Originals, and I subdued them all long enough so that I could get him away from them. I had heard of Klaus, but I couldn't care less about the bad deeds that he had done. He told me that he was forever in my debt, as he wouldn't have been able to protect himself because they had poisoned him with vervain. I helped him flush it out of his system, and we became the best of friends. I helped him with a few things afterwards, and before I knew it, he had introduced me to the rest of the Mikaelson's. I was finally part of a family again." I smiled softly. "They saved me many times over the six years that I knew them. But even they couldn't stop the hateful witches from getting a hold on me."

"They were jealous?" He asked, frowning.

I nodded again, sighing. "They believed that I would soon destroy them all. But almost everything that those witches believed in were based off of superstition and prophecies that never came true. They put a deadly poison into my drink. One of the only things I remember from the days that followed was falling off of one of the steps and into Elijah's arms. That's when they figured out that something had happened to me. They tried everything. Each and every one of them fed me their blood, even Finn and Kol. They thought it would save me, but nothing worked. I wouldn't heal. Klaus fed me his blood a few minutes before I died, and I suppose that because he was technically an unactivated hybrid, his blood was stronger. I woke up seven hours later, and I was immortal."
