Chapter One Hundred & Thirty

Elijah and Klaus both froze when they walked into the courtyard.

Elijah had a horrified expressions in his eyes as he stared down at the body, and I knew why. He had become a little more sensitive to this type of thing since he found out about the red door. But this expression faded as soon as it came.

Klaus walked forwards and picked up the note that was laid on the slaughtered girl's chest, and read it, then handed it to Elijah with a defeated look.

"Roses are red,

Lavender is blue,

Come find me before I find you."

Elijah read the short little poem aloud, and he sighed a little before handing it back to his brother. He knelt down to the body, inspecting exactly how the girl had died. He saw the slices on her wrists, and he looked up at me. He had told me how Aurora had become a vampire, so this wasn't surprising to any of us.

"I remembered her a better poet," Klaus muttered, continuing to look at the page.

"I would say that this is very poetic, Klaus," I muttered, crossing my arms over my chest.

"She wants us to find her, so let's," Klaus said, glancing at me and patting his brother on the shoulder before walking away. He stopped when Elijah spoke, and I swallowed. I knew what he was about to do.

"Are you so eager, Niklaus?" Elijah asked, and Klaus turned, a bit of irritation coming over his features. "The last time you even said her name was a thousand years ago, when you told me never to speak it again in your presence."

"So I'm to wait as she leaves her little calling cards all over my home?"

"There's something that you should know," Elijah said, looking down at the body again before standing to his feet. He looked at me, and I gave him a soft nod in assurance. I wouldn't let them harm each other. "When mother seized control of my mind, unleashing those monstrosities that lurked behind the red door, I saw something... Aurora was there."

"If you mean to confess a thousand-year-old secret that will divide us after our hard-won reconciliation, then te absolvo, brother. There is nothing that you could have done involving her that would be worse than what she did to me."

"Klaus, please don't just dismiss this. You need to-" I started, but he cut me off.

"Whatever it is, it can wait! We have a plate of here-and-now problems, and I mean to clear it," he said, sending me a soft smile before clapping Elijah on the shoulder affectionately. "If it makes you feel any better, we can all kill Aurora together! Then none of us need to play her little mind-games ever again, hm?"

He soon rushed to the door, leaving the two of us alone. He was preparing to kill his ex, it seemed.

Once he was gone, Elijah sighed a little, putting his hands in his pant pockets. He seemed rather unsure of himself, but at the same time, almost relieved that he hadn't told Klaus yet. I walked over to him, and stood by his side.
