He placed his hand on the door knob to open the door but Remi had locked it.

'Remi, let me explain'

'Just leave' she said through the door

He took a step back and decided to give her space. He swiped his shirt off the chair at the door as he left the room.

--------------////--------------////-----------------------

She didn't leave her room till the next morning, Remi packed a bag but couldn't make herself leave her room or the house.

She found herself trying to cry in bed but the tears kept stinging her eyes. Her heart wasn't racing in fear of anything and she reminded herself that the only time she felt this way was when her heart knew something she didn't want to admit to herself was the truth.

Her heart wasn't truly scared of what had happened which kept making it hard for her to cry her heart out and wallow in on self pity.

She stared at the ceiling, clenching her chest as if it were her heart to stop it from beating so fast.

'With all that I am, I would protect and honour you and I would learn to love you more each passing day till my last' he had said to her as they stood opposite each-other in front of the alter.

Promising to be with each other in sickness and in health. 'For rich or wealthier' he had said with a smirk.

He later explained that was what they said in his family for as long as he knew. He had explained that when he was little and they would say for 'richer or poorer' in movies the adults in his family would laugh and explain how grandfather had ensured till the end of man kind none of his offspring would ever  consider that statement.

Grandfather was the god after God to his family. He had made them the hidden royalty of the world and his family adored him for not letting the world have power over them wherever they were.

He was feared worldwide from  the cartels and the houses as Remi soon understood at their weddings.

She found out how much power awaited her husband.

Was it all a lie to make her let her guard down. Was he trying to win her over from her deal with his grandfather.

She needed to harden her heart towards him. That's the only way he wouldn't play her for a fool again.

The thought of the kiss they shared and how his hands caressed her back slipped into her thoughts and she squirmed and groaned loudly, covering her face with a pillow out of shame and spite.

She forcefully sat up in bed as she prompted herself to be strong and focus on her original goal to keep him as far away from her as possible.

She dragged herself to the edge of the bed where her slippers were and slid her feet in. She strolled towards the door reaching out for her robe and throwing it over herself.

She walked into the hallway and the maids quickly noticed her. They greeted her and she responded with a soft smile.

One of their five senior maids who she now knew as Sara, who wore a different uniform from the other girls stepped forward.

Her mind brushed over the different uniforms she had come across since she started this life of hers.

She had noticed the children being looked over by nannies from  Norland college, the most prestigious nannies in the world.

'Good morning ma'am, you have several public engagements planned with Mr Talabi today' Sara said with a smile

'Of course' Remi admitted as she remembered 'can you print out the briefs for me please'

'Already done ma'am' she said handing the file over to her.

Remi received with a smile and proceeded to open it and read it when the door at the other end of the hallways opened and she stepped out.

The files slipped out of her hand as Ophelia turned to look at her. She stood at the door in a robe that was awfully similar to hers.

She gave Remi a wicked smile before walking away in the opposite direction.

'Excuse me' Remi said under her breathe to the girls before storming away towards the room Ophelia exited.

She threw the door open to see her seemingly naked husband under the covers. The muscles of his bare back tightened as he moved his head slightly.

His face was turned away from her as he pulled a gun from under the pillow beside his head and pointed it at her direction without looking he pulled the trigger and shot above her head.

She screamed and fell to the ground but he only stretched slightly in bed.

She dragged herself  on her butt to the side of the door, she covered her mouth with her hand to stop herself from screaming as She leaned against the wall.

'Remi...' he called out as she walked into the foyer.

'You could have killed me'

'I thought it was Ophelia' he muttered under his breathe as he adjusted his tie with a straight face

'Of course. Ophelia what was I thinking' Remi said before Ellen, Ife  and three other maids walked into the foyer.

The room fell silent as they had a final stare down

'The cars are waiting outside' Ife noted

Remi turned to her with a forced smile and proceeded towards the door.

They stood beside each other on the right side of the stage at the rally for his campaign at the Balewa Square. Their drive there was quiet. The silence overshadowed Ellen's brief reading and corrections with the Pr executive and campaign manager.

Remi brushed off imaginary dust off her skirt. Her whole outfit had been carefully selected to politically announce their union with their main wedding a few days away she was nervous despite her anger towards the man everyone in the world would soon know as her husband.
