Chapter 27

Right Girl

As one of the most awaited events at Mackenzie University commenced, we gathered in our rooms to watch the local telecast.

Actually, it's been 2 hours already. So far, so good.

For every chance we got to witness our representatives advancing to the next round, every room in Mackenzie would erupt in extreme anticipation and excitement. Everything was so intense!

Yes, that goes for me, too. But for some reason, I was a bit... uncomfortable. Just watching the competition from afar brought me utter discomfort and uneasiness.

By now, they're probably waiting for the final results out there. If things worked differently last time, would I be able to join the competition again? I wondered...

It's not that the superiors left me behind. It's the fact that the internal guilt within me outshines my morale and confidence to even volunteer or sign up.

I felt... humiliated. By my own incompetence. In front of everybody.

"Sayang! Hindi nakasali si President this year!"

It came from the back. I think it was an honest and harmless opinion, but it backfired in no time.

"Our hands are full this school year. Maybe that's why?"

"I heard selected talaga ang participants ngayon. Mahusay raw iyong Hennessy."

"Huh? Haven't y'all heard the issue?"

Maybe because the reason why we lost wasn't actually exposed to the public, but to those people who were observant of the event details and losing factors, they would eventually grasp it.

Some people had an idea why we lost the business plan competition... Some people knew why I didn't participate in this year's CBI Awards.

I knew the time would come when this issue would torment me eventually. It was inevitable. For someone who worried and cared about even the tiniest details... it was a nightmare. That's what I felt.
