Chapter 35

Blood

I wasn't my usual self when we went back to the party.

Gio followed me but he kept his distance because I made it clear that I wanted some personal space first, to think and evaluate what happened.

Madam Coleen.

"Ophelia! Tamang-tama. We just talked about how pretty you are tonight," sambit ni Tita Jean.

Nakangiti ang katabi nitong ginang sa akin. Bahagya itong napasulyap sa likod ko.

"Salamat, Tita... Madam..." I smiled shyly as I neared them.

"Since when is my definition of someone pretty associated with the dress? The pretty is your face, hija," the Madam differed with a sweet smile. "It's nice seeing you again here, Ophelia."

Wow. To receive such praise from someone her caliber and position made my heart flutter.

"Thank you, Madam. A-And about last time, uh... pasensiya na po kayo."

"You don't need to worry about that. Everything's fine. And also, please, just call me Tita..."

"Oh." I blinked. That took me by surprise!

"Ma," that was Gio.

I briefly stopped moving when I unexpectedly saw them in one frame, together. Learning about their mother-son relationship is one thing; witnessing them act as one is another.

"I see you were together," puna ni Tita Jean kalaunan.

I flinched.

"Yes, Tita," Gio answered nonchalantly before glancing at me.

I looked away and swallowed hard.

Surprisingly, Tita Jean looked like she was having a lot of fun knowing that. She even clapped, ignoring Tito Vince, together with Mr. Ambrose, coming in our direction.

"This is the perfect time to discuss your birthday celebration next month, Ophelia! We have the same day, just one month apart, right? Remember when we used to plan your birthdays during mine?"

"Is that right?" Gio asked with intrigue before moving to my side.

My mind went blank but I managed to give him a nod.

Later on, Madam Coleen was just about to say something when familiar faces added another crowd to our group. And believe me, they were angels sent from above.

"Ate Ophelia!"

"Gideon?" My face beamed.

It was the first time I met the young man, so seeing him up close felt surreal.
