23:00

Only a few lights were on in the hospital. Veronica walked in quietly, greeting some of her colleagues who were done for the day, clenching her phone as she manoeuvred her way till Mason's room.

When she opened his room, she was startled to find him standing before the door. He held her shoulders firmly, pulled her into a long hard kiss, "You ready, hun?" She was dazed. This was definitely the dangerous man she fell in love with.

She held his hand firmly as they furtively slipped through the corridors, "I can't believe I'm sneaking you out."

He joked, "Just like old times."

She sighed, "The stakes are higher here... does Sierra know?"

"No. I don't want to take any risk. We'll speak to her only when we reach her house."

Veronica was unnerved. Mason deliberately asked her not to sign his release or tell anyone because Burrell would probably get to know about it. Through one of the back doors of the hospital, her car was waiting. She sat behind the wheel as he took a place beside her.

He got rid of that hospital robe and reached across the backseat to grab his shirt and jeans along with his gun.

She hesitantly asked after a moment, "You're...really abandoning Sierra? After all she has done for you?"

Mason grumbled, wearing his clothes in that small space, "My priority is to get you and Ileana to safety and with Burrell in town, he won't take long to find out about Sierra."

He recalled how just yesterday he had threatened him in his hospital room. He would not let him harm his family. His wife reasoned with him, "We could take her along..."

"No. I won't risk your life."

"So you'll just walk up to her and snatch Ileana from her?!"

He gawked at her, "Ileana's our daughter.

"Of course she is, Mason but...I don't know. Sierra really cares for her, for us. She's...practically family."

He could see the tears welling up in her eyes and he felt heavy, "This is exactly why we have to stay away from her."

Veronica continued, "If it wasn't for her, you'd be dead, I'd be devastated and so would've been Ileana!"

"Just drive, honey. We'll talk about this later."

And for a good while, she did...until she slowed down, seeing the several black cars before Sierra's house. It was nothing but suspicious. Mason ordered, not liking this at all, "Drive straight."

She did as he told her. The front door was forced open. Typical of Burrell's dirty work. His men were stationed all around. They seemed to be going through the house in depth. He feared the worst right now. If those idiots were lurking around like this, it meant they didn't find them...but then, where was Sierra?!

He took Veronica's phone and looked for the woman's number.

She trembled, her eyes stuck on the car's side mirror,  "Oh my God...Mason. What do we do?! Ileana...God, Ileana is in there with them! I won't let them hurt her!"

She suddenly applied the brake, her instinct taking over as she grabbed Mason's gun. He yanked her back inside, shouting at her, "Veronica, goddammit! Get in your senses. Ileana's not there. Drive now. Drive!"

She panicked, instantly slamming her foot on the accelerator pedal. He looked back, seeing a few of them getting in a car, ready to catch up with them. They were spotted.
