CHAPTER 27 – SUNDAY FUNDAY

I woke up to my phone vibrating. Kinapa-kapa ko yung kama ko to find out to whom does this fvking message belongs to.

*dilat kanang mata

*dilat kaliwang mata

Then I found myself smiling.

From: The Boss

Thanks for last night.

I reply immediately.

To: The Boss

Kung maka-‘thanks for last night ka’ parang may nangyari ah? Asa dude.

After I reply, pumunta na ako sa CR to take a bath. Ngayon kasi ako maglilipat ng mga gamit ko sa unit. Yung mga pang-personal hygiene lang ah. Yung mga furniture kasi, nag-order na lang ako tapos ide-deliver na lang yun sa unit ko. Nandoon naman na si Gerald para mag-asikaso. He insisted to help me fix my unit.

While I’m on the shower, I cannot help but smile everytime I remember what happened last night. There was never a romantic moment, mind you, readers. As if type ko si Karvy. It’s just that, after so many days, doon lang ulit ako sobrang nag-enjoy. And not that I don’t enjoy Gerald’s company, it just that that’s the first time I have been with someone else that I don’t really know, yet he really made me happy. We talk about a lot of things, and we didn’t run out of things to talk about. He’s a good company as well. I’ve learned so much about him and he about me. First time to after so many years na nakahanap ako ng taong kagagaanan ng loob ko in an instant!

Well, I must say, I consider him an acquaintance from now on and not just a mere stranger. Haha. Atleast nagle-level up!

After I finished taking a bath, I prepared all the things that I will bring on my new unit. Aside from hygienic products, I also bring with me some clothes.

“Hey, bestfriend!”

[Hey, papunta ka na ba dito? Na-deliver nap ala yung mga furniture na in’order mo.] Sabi ni Gerald sa kabilang linya.

“Great! Thanks! See you later!” And then I went off. Excited na’ko maglipat! Hahaha!

“Surprise!!!” Bungad ni Gerald sa akin pagkabukas na pagkabukas ko ng unit ko. “So how do you like your new condo unit???” Masayang sabi nito. Yung ibang gamit kasi such as the sofa, tables, chairs eh nakaayos na. SIguro while I’m driving, Gerald’s already designing.

“It’s great! Thanks! Buti na lang hindi grays, blacks and whites ang nakikita ko. At least may time magpahinga yung mata ko after being tired from looking at your dull unit.” Pang-aasar ko sa kanya. I was still holding my things and then headed to my room to fix it.

“Nga pala, Rain, if ever you needed someone to redecorate your room, just ask me.” He said while smiling.

“Sigurado ka bang businessman ka? O decorator?” Ehh kasi naman insist nang insist na tumulong mag-decorate ng mga bagay bagay. Una yung office ko, ngayon naman itong unit ko.

“Nah, I’m fine. At tsaka, malaking abala na ako sa’yo noh. Tsaka Sunday to, wala ka bang date whatever?” Nilapag ko na yung mga gamit sa kama. I’ll just change the bedsheet and covers.

Sumunod naman si Gerald sa akin. “As if may ka-date?”

“Bakit? Wala ba? Sa gwapo mong yan?” I said after I placed my things on the toilet.

“So you do find me handsome?” Tanong niya.

“Of course. There’s one thing I’ve gotta tell you.” Sabi ko tapos lumapit ako sa kanya. “You know what, I think Yumi likes you.” Sabi ko sa kanya habang nakangiti. Naaalala ko kasi yung tingin ni Yumi sa kanya nung pumunta siya sa office ko eh. Haha.

“Who’s Yumi?” Naguguluhang tanong niya.

“Yung secretary ko? Gah, you don’t remember that sweet and charming lady from my office?”

Tinitigan niya muna ako bago magsalita. “Ohh. Rain, I’ve got something to ask you.”

“What?” Tanong ko habang patuloy sa pagaayos sa bago kong kwarto.

“If...Ahm...I mean...you said that you find me handsome? Right?” Umupo siya sa kama ko.

“Hey! Nagco-cover kaya ako! Tumayo ka nga diyan! Doon ka sa couch!” Pagtataboy ko sa kanya. Tumingin siya nang masama pero sumunod naman siya.

“Okay...So ayun nga...we’re bestfriends. I care for you and you do the same.” Mahinang sabi niya.

“And?”

“Hm...How do I say this???” Tapos hindi siya mapakali sa upuan niya.

“What??? Ang gulo mo. Di kita maintindihan...” Umiiling-iling na sabi ko.

“Okay...Okay...Ganito na lang, if we’re not best friends, if we met in different circumstances, if let’s say, this is the first time we met... do you think...ahm...I mean... would you fall in love with me?” Napatingin ako sa kanya. “It’s just a random question ha...Wala lang akong makwento sa’yo...or maisip na topic.”

I smiled at him. Looking at him, I saw that hopeful face of him. “You know what, this is a very funny place for two people to meet, isn’t it?” Then I started laughing.

“Rain, just answer my question!” Naiiritang sabi niya. “And don’t laugh! Say we met in a bar or at a park, or wherever you want! Do you think I am someone whom you can love???”

I felt the urgency in his voice.

“Maybe  Gentleman ka naman, mabait. And you’re a catch! Pogi mo eh. Though you know, I am not after looks.” Then I went back on working.

“Ehh...what if...I tell you right now that I am already in love with you?” This made me look at him again. For a moment, I thought his almost sincere in what he said.

I do nothing but stare at him. Paano ko nga ba sasagutin yung tanong niya? “Gerald...kung may nagugustuhan ka ng ibang babae, just say it to her. Wag ako tanungin mo. We’re bestfriends nga kasi diba? And I really don’t know what to say. C’mon, mag-change topic na lang tayo! Wag mo ko pagtripan! Haha.” And he didn’t say anymore.

We spent the day working on my unit... talking and eating until he has to go to his own unit. Past midnight na rin kasi kami natapos. ”Thanks, Gerald!”

“Anything for you.” Nakangiting sabi niya. However, I noticed na parang medyo matamlay na siya after nung paguusap namin sa kwarto. Sabi ko nga sa kanya baka pagod na siya ehh. Marami rin kasi siyang ginagawa. But he insisted on helping me at wala na akong nagawa.

Hays, Monday na bukas. And Monday means the start of...
