Living Goddess

The young Kumari of  Katmandu
Is chosen as a goddess you know.
They're closeted by Palace walls
And cosseted as little girls
They're hidden from the common view
Glimpsing of the child brings blessing on you
But when they reach a certain stage
And show of blood betrays their age
They're stripped of early privileged life
Yet somewhat spoiled to be a wife
For a husband won't meet every whim
But wants a wife who'll wait on him.
It's a pretty strange life for the time it lasts
But a sadder life still when it's in the past.
For the young Kumari of Katmandu
Who once was hidden from general view.
