The Parade Ground in Cochin
Was once a military thing
The British the French,
The Portuguese  drilled
Their soldiers here.

You go there today
It's quite a display
But seldom are soldiers seen.
Cricket is played on every inch
So many games in play.

They're bowling everywhere you look
Or else defending wicket.
The field is set, they're digging in
Nothing to see but cricket.

Empires come, empires go
India's free and proud
But the signs of what were
Are still all around and the British
Left them cricket.

They don't do drills
In boots with bands
Instead they all play cricket
The British don't rule here anymore
But get well beaten at Cricket.
