The Hotel Cook

It happened on a train we took
While staying in Sri Lanka
We met a man who claimed to be
The cook from a where we were staying.

Now this is not a typical tale
Most locals are so honest.
But this was quite a clever con.
And won't be dull I promise.

We made acquaintance with a man
We met waiting at the station
He asked us where we had come from
And whereabouts were staying.

A friendly man he seemed so nice
There seemed no harm in telling.
We thought no more got on the train
And settled for the journey.

We'd beenon the train about an hour
When another stranger greeted us
You must know me our new friend said
I'm the cook from Palace hotel.

We'd never seen this man before
Were sure we hadn't met him
But he had named the right hotel
How could he be knowing?

He'd find us a taxi at Fort Galle
He'd take us to his brother's
It didn't add up; we worked them out
And we're quickly off and going.
