The Destiny of two

Chapter 47 ~ To kill the king

Merlin and I were sitting at the table, I was staring at the fruit and Merlin was staring at his bowl of porridge.

"Can you pass the salt please," Gaius says to Merlin.

I look up at Merlin and see him pass an apple to Gaius. He grabs it obliviously, Gaius looks at the apple then at Merlin. "Salt, please." Gaius looks back down at his bowl.

I grab a plum and hand It to Gaius.

"Are you two all right?" Gaius asks

Merlin looks up at Gaius "Yeah"

"Just got a few things on our mind" I say

"Anything you'd like to talk to me about?" Gaius asked

"I can't imagine you'd be interested" Merlin says.

Gaius gives us a look "As long as you're sure."

"I should get to work." Merlin gets up and walks to the door.

"Yeah, I should go with." I get up and walk to Merlin.

"Merlin, Olivia" 

We turn to look at Gaius.

"That's a broom cupboard." Gaius says

Merlin and I look at the door. Then Merlin smiles at Gaius.

"We were just testing you." I say 

Merlin and I walk to the actual door.

"We are going to the dragon right?" I whisper when we get outside.

"Yeah," Merlin replies.

We head to the cave Merlin grabs a torch and we head down the stairs. We get into the main opening and see the dragon sleeping. Merlin clears his throat, the dragon slowly stands up.

"Well, young witch and warlock, what is it you come to ask of me?" The dragon asks

"We need your help" Merlin says

"Of course you do. But this time will you heed my words?" He asks

"The sorcerer Tauren is plotting to kill the king!" I say stepping forward. "He's made and ally of Morgana."  

"We don't know what to do." Merlin continues.

"Do... nothing" The dragon says

"What do you mean?" I ask

"If we do nothing then Uther will die." Merlin says

"Don't you want Uther dead? It is Uther that persecutes you and your kind, Merlin and Olivia. It is Uther that murders the innocent." The dragon says.

"That doesn't make it right to kill him!" I say

"Only if Uther dies can magic return to the land. Only if Uther dies will the two of you be free. Uther's reign is at an end."  He begins extending his wings "Let Arthur's reign begin" He flies up "Fulfill your destiny!"

"Wait!  Where does it say our destiny includes murder?" Merlin shouts.

"Free this land from Tyranny!" He flies higher and higher "Free us all!"

"I'm done" I turn and walk out of the cave and back upstairs.

Merlin and I were sitting back in Gaius's chambers.

"Do you think Uther's a good king?" Merlin asks

Gaius looks at him "Sorry?"

"Uther-- do you think he's good for the kingdom?" Merlin continues.
