The next day Merlin and I were standing in Arthur's chambers cleaning his chain mail. The door opens, Arthur and Sir Leon walk in.

"Are you sure this is all of them?" Arthur asks he was holding a scroll.

"Names and last known dwelling places," Leon says.

Merlin quickly went back to cleaning I did the same, so it didn't look like we were listening.

"My father suspects the fire was started by sorcery," Arthur says.

"Indeed, Sire. I've included the details for everyone we suspect of consorting with sorcerers, witches or Druids." Sir Leon says.

"Gather the men. We'll arrest them immediately." Arthur orders.

Sir Leon nods and walks out the door.

Arthur looks at us "I thought I told you to do that yesterday."

"I didn't have time, I was cleaning the stables," Merlin says

Arthur raises his eyebrows "That's strange because a little bird told me you were somewhere else."

Merlin opens the scroll on the table with his magic and reads the names.

"Mucking the stables is strange, but a talking bird isn't?" Merlin asks

Arthur turns back to look at us. Merlin quickly closes the scroll and looks up.

"Merlin, what've we said about you trying to be funny?" Arthur says

"I shouldn't" Merlin states.

Arthur takes off his belt and turns away "So where are my flowers?" He asks

Merlin looks through the scroll again.

"Your flowers?" I ask

"I heard Morgana got some," Arthur says

Merlin quickly closes the scroll as Arthur looks at us again.

"I assumed you two would be putting them in all the rooms. Or is she the only one to receive a token of your affections?" Arthur asks

"I assume you are talking about Merlin," I say

"Of course," Arthur says "So is she the only one?"

"Yes," Merlin says

Arthur raises his eyebrows.

"Uh, no, no. Uh, What?"  Merlin had a weird look on his face "It's not a token of anything. Affection or otherwise."

Arthur turns again, Merlin opens the scroll and reads the names.

"I see. So why were you two trying to hide them from me yesterday?" Arthur asks

"We weren't... well we were we didn't want you to get the wrong impression," I say

"What was your impression?" Arthur asks

"That I was trying to cheer her up after the fire," Merlin replies

Arthur turns "Pick them yourself?"

Merlin closes the scroll, and it falls off the table.

"Maybe" Merlin replies.

Arthur nods and gives him a look.

Merlin smiles "I was only trying to be nice."

Arthur nods "Sword."

Merlin turns and hands Arthur his sword.

"That'll be all," Arthur says

Merlin and I take a wide birth around Arthur and walk out the door.
