'LET'S GO, ALEX, WE'RE RUNNING LATE!'

'GIMME ONE MINUTE, I NEED TO GET THIS BIT OF SHAMPOO OFF.'

Donna stamped her foot with frustration. It was already 8 am, and the minutes were ticking by.

Seconds later, Alex stepped out of the shower, with only a towel around her. She looked at Donna angrily.

'Well, turn around!'

'Fine.'

Alex slipped into a tank top and torn denim shorts. She pulled a black jacket around her and snatched her bag from Donna.

'Hey, don't show me that attitude!' said Donna angrily.

'What attitude? I'm just "hurrying up".' sneered Alex.

Both of them ran down the stairs. Halfway across, Donna twisted her ankle.

'OUCH! Fuck!'

Alex whirled around 'What happened?'

'Twisted my fucking ankle.' groaned Donna

'Shit. Hold my hand, come on.'

Putting one hand across Donna's waist, Alex held Donna as she limped across the floor. Donna slightly grunted with every step.

They reached the car. Alex gently eased Donna into her seat. Donna sighed with relief as she took a seat.

'You okay?' asked Alex.

'Yeah, not really, no.' answered Donna, looking frustrated at herself.

'It's okay, you'll be fine.'

'Ugh, I hate my ankle.'

'Well, it gets you out of driving. So that's good.'

'Driving's fun.'

Alex stared at Donna. Donna sighed.

'Okay, it's not.' she relented.

Alex shut the door, and started up the car. The car started up with a groan and then rumbled steadily. She looked at Donna, who was pressing her ankle with hopes that it'd feel better.

'I don't wanna go to Washington.' said Donna, with a definitive note in her voice.

Alex stared at her in disbelief. 'You can't just not wanna go.'

'Come on, it's only a bunch of presidential buildings. I can see that anytime I want to.'

'Where do you wanna go?'

'California.'

Alex took a deep sigh. She looked at Donna.

'It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, driving to California.' said Donna.

'Okay... Let's go to California, then.' said Alex.

Donna looked over. 'Oh my god!'

'Let's go to California.'

'I heard that. Wow, really?'

'Well, it's now or never Donna.'

Donna clapped her hands with enthusiasm. 'Oh, gosh, yes!'

Alex grasped the steering wheel. Her body tensed up. She looked over at Donna. Donna looked right back.

'Let's do it.' nodded Donna.

'Alright!' yelled Alex. 'Cali's never gonna know what hit 'em.'

'Damn straight-'

In the spur of the moment, Donna bumped her foot against the seat.

'OUCH! Ouch, ouch, ouch!' she yelled.

'Be careful, Donna. We really don't need anything else.'

Donna grunted. Alex smiled.

'Well, then. California, here we come.'
