It was particularly windy that night for humans. It might have just seemed the weather man's perception was wrong but anyone aware of the existence of the supernatural world knew better. The creatures that chose the human world as a hidden place could feel the fear creep up in them, their knees shook while they silently prayed whatever evil that might have found its way to the human world would not find them.

Bethany—a new mother—placed her tiny daughter in her crib watching in fascination when a giggle let the baby's lips, oh how she loved her tiny bundle of joy.

A low tune escaped the mother's lips watching in satisfaction when her baby's eyes began to drop slowly, she had noted that it was the baby's lullaby and after a long day, she would prefer the baby to sleep without a fuss.

Whilst the mother hummed to her baby, Rick her husband leaned by the door with his arms crossed a soft smile over his face. This was his family, after all the trials and pains they've gone through he was happy to finally feel this peace. Just as his wife bent to kiss their daughter's head he walked up to her and wrapped his fingers around her waist enjoying the little gasp that left her lips.

"I thought you were asleep!" She said in a low whisper, she wouldn't want the baby to wake up now.

"I was going to fall asleep... but you didn't come to bed after five minutes." He pouted playfully, a small blush covered Bathany's cheeks.

"Come on, let's go now. Little Aurora needs to sleep."

The visiting creature stayed down listening, waiting, for the couple to leave the room so he could finally know the reason for his restlessness in the past weeks, he had found it extremely impossible to control himself and he was curious to know why.

After the last footstep, he teleported himself into the room, his dark obsidian eyes searched around only stopping at a little pale pinked crib where he could note the figure of a child.

His lips curled up in confusion, a child? He wanted to know more.

He moved closer and picked the child, instantly the baby's eyes flew open and met with his beastly form. His left horn twitched in anticipation, but nothing happened, the baby didn't cry, and he finally felt a sense of calmness.

He hadn't realized when a claw of his pierced the skin of the baby making the baby scream out in pain while deep red liquid slipped from the cut on her wrist.

"Xanthus!" He snapped his head to the door where Bethany and Rick stood, the woman had her hand over her mouth in fear.

She didn't care that the demon in her daughter's room was her friend, no, she didn't care that if they were to fight now he would no doubt win over her. What she only cared about was her baby in his huge claws.

"Step away from my baby!" She screamed, Rick pulled out a dagger ready to hurt the demon but Bethany held out her wrist to stop him. "Don't hurt her Xanthus, she's just a baby." She said calmly this time with so much plea in her voice.

Xanthus' lips curled into a snarl as a look of disdain passed over his face, his horns twitched in disappointment and anger boiled up in him.

"You think I'd hurt my mate?" His voice was deep and powerful, it almost shook the whole house.

The supernatural creatures in the human realm could feel that a greater demon was angry, but they couldn't tell which one thing they knew for sure was to stay hidden.

Bethany and Rick froze up, "Y-your mate?" They both exclaimed, as Bethany angrily snatched her baby from his arms and saw the blood pouring out of her baby's wrist.

"You—what is this? Demons hurt their mates?!" Her voice rose to an octave.

"It was an accident!" He defended trying to take her back when the baby only wailed louder at the noise in the room, Rick rubbed his wife's shoulders finally happy she could see Xanthus for what he truly was... a demon!

"Out!" Bethany snapped, which made her baby cry. Xanthus' eyes hardened at that, dark clouds appeared on the already dark sky-a storm was coming the couple knew this was the handiwork of the greater demon in their home.

"I cannot leave my mate," he growled.

"Leave!" Rick said sternly, after a few minutes of staring and the baby crying loudly the demon finally sighed and nodded.

He stepped closer to place a tiny kiss on the baby's head but her mother only moved back, Xanthus ignored the harsh slash in his chest as he spoke. "Okay, I will leave now only to return when she's twenty—I am not asking you so do not bother to disagree with me, I am only giving you this choice because I still respect you, Bethany."

The woman blinked at the tears building up in her eyes and Rick glared at him.

The demon couldn't be fazed by this.

"I am allowing her to grow in this corrupted realm only because of you Bethany, but if she is going to stay here she must not be corrupted—which means, I do want my mate to be disrespected by swanky human males!"

Bethany opened her mouth to speak but she knew better than to argue with a greater demon like Xanthus, she was truly thankful he had spared the life of her family.

Both couples nodded at the demon lord, and he sent one last look at the baby before disappearing into a portal he had opened which led to his kingdom Dapphion.

Bethany saw the cut on her baby's wrist begin to heal up and form a shape of some kind.

"A mark." She mumbled running her index finger around it, "We'll tell her it's a birthmark, Rick. I don't want my baby taken." She cried when he pulled them into his arms.

"We'll protect her," he knew he couldn't promise that the demon wouldn't come because Xanthus wasn't one to go against his words.

😘Kisses.
