I dreamed of
a love to give
—to sacred hearts
to little prayers received

I dreamed of
a life to live
—to devote to dreams
to find what I believe

I dreamed of
a height to reach
—to find my sense
to learn what to teach

I dreamed of
a mind to nourish
—to discover worlds unknown
to let imagination flourish

I dreamed of
a time to rest
—to lay my head
to close my eyes at best

I dreamed of
a thought to think
—to understand the world
to salvage what's on brink

but in this life—

I got
a love so brittle
—that destroyed me
that won't ever settle

I got
a life that's a hassle
—that never had a course
that don't have mettle

I got
a height so tall
—that I shrink from the loft
even if I give it my all

I got
a mind so chaotic
—that I regress back
to where I started

I got
a time to slave
away until nothing's left
that there's none to save

I got
a thought so destructive
—that it ate my sanity
that became so repressive

I never got
what I dreamed of
—and such is life
