please—I need it so
a break from
all the pressure
—one I needed to let go
Give me a break
please—let me be
for once
a break from
all the stress
—one I needed to stop
this tiring dance
Give me a break
please—let me taste
the heavens
a break from
all the fires
—one to breathe air
away from the smoke
in the glens
Give me a break
please—I need it to be free
a break from all the cages
—a break from being me
My thoughts run wild
—have I reined them so?
My eyes will run blind
—what level have I to sink low?
Problems of life
rain on me once more
—never ending
never stopping—
what else rhymes with sorrow?
Tears of the past—
will I look back to
the way it was before?
—never fading
never missing—
I find no joy in tomorrow
So, give me a break
please—I need it
to find my voice
a break from
all the screaming
in my head
—one to tune out
all the noise
Please—
give me a break
from the life
I've led

until all my veins
have bled
