Dutch had asked Javier to go and deal with some O'Driscolls who were setting up their camp a little too close for comfort and told him that he could choose who he took with him. As soon as you heard, he hurried over to your father, your guns already prepared. You asked him if you could go with him and at first he said no, attempting to be a responsible parent but they didn't last long. You begged and pleaded, reminding your father that you were more than capable of assisting him with this job.

So finally Javier gave in with a sigh, telling you to collect your things and meet him at the horses. You couldn't help the smile on your face as you grabbed your things and regrouped with your father at your horses. This was your first actual job. You had done little things before and robbed a few people but this was your first time confronting some O'Driscolls, which you assumed would end in bloodshed.

You and Javier mounted your horses and rode out of the camp. "You've got this, right?" Your father asked you, wanting to make sure that you'll be okay when things got rough.

"I'll be fine, I can handle myself. I've been taught by the best, don't worry" you assured him with a roll of your eyes.

"Alright, just...don't shoot first, wait until I give you the signal" Javier advised, looking at you with a serious expression.

"Wait for the signal, then shoot. I've got it" you repeated as you nodded at him. You knew that you had this under control, but you understood that your father was going to worry about you no matter what you said. Javier just chuckled as he shook his head, both of you riding towards the O'Driscoll camp.

It wasn't long before you both reached the camp, you dismounted your horses a short distance away so that you could approach a little quieter. You grabbed your rifle before following Javier up to the camp. Once you got to the camp, the pair of you walked in and caught the attention of the O'Driscoll boys.

The group of men scrabbled to their feet. Some of them looked older than your father but others looked like they couldn't be much older than you. You went to step forward but your father held his hand out in front of you, making you sigh and stop.

"Alright, friends. It's time to move along" Javier told them. Well, they couldn't say that he didn't give them a choice.

"We ain't going anywhere" one of the O'Driscolls snapped as he raised his gun, aiming it at Javier. You reacted by aiming your own gun at him.

One of the younger O'Driscolls aimed a shaky gun at you, Javier didn't hesitate before grabbing his gun from his holster and shooting the O'Driscoll. Following your father's lead, you shot the man who was holding a gun at him. You and Javier fell back, taking cover behind the wagon that was sitting in their camp.

"I guess that was the signal, I thought it would be a little more subtle" you teased before taking a shot at the group of O'Driscolls.

"I didn't want you to miss it" Javier smiled before leaning around the wagon and shooting another man.

You smiled and shook your head, listening to the bullets hitting the other side of the wagon. Once there was a pause in the sound, you poked your head up and shot another O'Driscoll. Then everything went silent.

"Was that all of them?" Javier asked, furrowing his brow at the lack of sound.

"I don't know, I thought there was more..." you frowned before you both stood up, slowly and cautiously.

Your father and you walked around the wagon, holding your guns up, ready to shoot anyone who planned on surprising you. Javier nodded at you and you both wandered around the camp, making sure the dead bodies were actually dead, looting anything you could find.

You jumped and spun around when you heard something hitting the ground with force and a disgruntled curse, your eyes widened when you saw an O'Driscoll had knocked your father to the ground. He held a knife over Javier's face in both of his hands while your father was holding the man's wrists, both of them pushing against each other.

You hurried over to the pair struggling, you would have just shot the O'Driscoll but you couldn't risk accidentally hurting Javier in the process. You rammed the butt of your gun into the man's temple, causing him to fall off of your father and drop the blade. You stood over the man before delivering a shot to his chest, definitely killing him. Javier just sighed as he relaxed on the ground.

"Are you alright?" you asked as you held your hand out for him to take.

"Just fine" Javier nodded as he took your hand, letting you assist him back to his feet. You and your father looked around at the mess you both made but looking back at each other. "We should get out of here" he nodded.

"Agreed" you chuckled before following your father towards the horse.

"Hey, Y/N" Javier smiled as he clasped his hand over your shoulder. "You did good, hijo. You will be the first person I come too for help next time I need a partner" he complimented you.

"Thanks, dad. Anytime" you smiled back at him. He patted your shoulder before you both parted and mounted your horses.

"Let's get back and tell Dutch the good news" Javier nodded and you nodded back before you both took off, riding away from the now abandoned camp.
