Chapter 2: The party

"I'm ready! or so I think?"  sabi ko sa sarili ko habang nakatingin sa salamin. I heard a knock from the door, and I saw my mom entered. 

"Oh my! My baby is really pretty! Just like me" Mom said as she saw me in my dress.

To be honest, I like this dress. Its an off shoulders and maikli lang siya dahil above the knee yung haba. The color of this dress? Well, it's light blue, my favorite color, and sabi nila bagay daw sakin itong color na to because it's a perfect match for my fair white skin.

Pinasuot naman ako ni mom ng silver high heels ng di kataasan, mga 2 inch lang naman kasi matangkad naman na daw ako. I also wore my heart necklace and it really matches my dress.

"Are you ready sweetheart? The guests can't wait to see you again. I mean you've been staying in the states for ten years, and tonight, they'll see you again" Dad said as he entered the room.

Hmmm... I don't know why, but I have a feeling that there will be a problem later.

Well, I hope not! Wag naman sana ako mamagnet sa isang case mamaya.
Yes! Aaminin ko, minsan tinatawag ko ang sarili ko na crime magnet, kasi naman! kahit saan ako mapunta eh merong nangyayaring di maganda, lalo na kapag kinutuban ako.

"Sweetie? Are you okay? Ba't parang bigla kang namutla? Is something wrong? Is there something bothering you?" Sunod-sunod na tanong ni daddy. Napansin niya yata sa itsura ko na may bumabagabag sa isip ko. Pero inilingan ko na lang siya bilang sagot.

"Let's go down na? Everyone's waiting. They can't wait to see the new you. You've grown so much" Mom said while smiling.

This party is just a welcome party but, why do the people keep on acting like its my 18th birthday?

"Mom, dad? This is just a welcome back party for me but the both of you kept on acting like it's my debut. And, new me? I was just staying in the states for ten years" I said.

"Exactly! You stayed there for quite a long time, and the last time they saw you? I think you were just 5 years old, and now? they'll see the teenage version of the beautiful only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fernandez" Dad explained.

*sigh*

"Let's go na?" I asked them.

Papalabas na kami ng kwarto nang may sinabi pa ako.

"You already know what kind of school I entered in the states right? And probably you know that I was named as a great student detective. Please, I'm begging you mom, dad. Please don't tell anyone about it okay? I also don't want to be the subject pagdating sa mga tsismis" I begged them with my puppy eyes. 

They said that everyone can't resist my puppy eyes because it looks too cute. But by the looks of my parents? I don't think it'll work.

I heard my father sighed.

"Okay then, I was about to tell those things because it will be a great news knowing that a 15 years old teen can handle a serious case! It will amaze everyone for sure, but I respect what you want" Wow! my puppy eyes actually worked! 

Tumingin na si dad sa baba at tinawag ang attention ng lahat. Di naman madami ang bisita dahil mga pinsan, ninong at ninang, tito at tita, lolo at lola lang naman ang nandito. In other words, yung extended family. Pero medyo marami rin sila dahil madami akong pinsan. 

Nagpakita na ako sa mga bisita at ayos naman ang lahat. The party went smooth.

Habang nagkakasiyahan ang buong pamilya sa kwentuhan may bigla namang nangyari na hindi namin inaasahan.
