Jimin ran down to the bay, his feet hitting the sand that had begun to warm up from the heat of the sun. The tubs of food in his backpack clacked together with each stride he took. But he paid it no mind, too eager to get to the bay.
He was standing on the bay beach 15 minutes later. Latte had followed him again, the cat weaving his way in and out of Jimin's legs. Rubbing his patched fur against Jimin's calves, purring deeply.
Jimin placed the backpack down at the cliff base, making his way down the beach he then waded ankle deep into the water. And he waited.
It took no more than 10 minutes for the 6 mermen to arrive, heads and shoulders appearing out of the water hands brushing across their faces to prevent water from their hair dripping into their eyes.
Jimin thought back to the night he had spent researching. He then reached out his hands before forming the letters that he remembered from the night before.
"Hi" the 2 simple letters were enough to have all 6 of the mermen perk up. Jimin grinned they understood, he hoped.
The grin on his face only widened when they all repeated the letters, "Hi".
The next sentence took longer to think about and form but he had practiced.
"How are you?" After all it was only polite to ask.
The mermen had clearly picked up on his hesitancy at forming the words, so they took it one at a time.
The coral merman went first he just stuck up his thumb which seemed to he the symbol for "good".
The all did it to be precise, but then the red haired merman gestured to Jimin. Returning the question. Jimin put up his thumb too. That had the merman smiling sharp toothed smiles.
Jimin's attention was drawn by the sound of a meow, Latte was patroling the beach. Yelping and meowing out wanting Jimin by his side but not wanting to go into the water.
The navy merman made a gesture as if asking what it was. Jimin spelt out the letters of "cat". It didn't stop the merman from hissing at the 'cat'. They really didn't like it. Especially since it took their mate's attention off of them.
Jimin waded back up to the beach the mermen followed him as far as they could up into the shallow water. They lay down on their stomachs on the sandy beach leaving their tails in the water, perched up on their forearms. They laid in a row watching as Jimin made his way to his pack, he wanted the book of the symbols beside him incase he forgot letters.
He pulled his pack down the beach, sitting as close to the merman as he dared, close enough to see the symbols they made and they could see him clearly too. Latte came and sat down on his lap, where he was currently sitting crossed legged. Sand was in his shorts where his legs were crossed but he paid no mind to that.
He then got to work opening the book to the page with the letters on them. He then slowly but surely spelt out his name to the mermen.
"Jimin" then he gestured at himself to show that it was his name.
The mermen all made the same clicking sound, Jimin thought it might be his name in the merman's tounge.
The coral merman then slowly symboled to Jimin. Leaving enough time so that Jimin could check the letters in the book.
But soon enough he had the name "Jin" figured out. He then said it aloud in his language. Jin tilted his head, Jimin supposed he probably hadn't heard his name in Jimin's language, much like Jimin hadn't heard his in theirs.
The next merman was the silver scaled merman, he spelt out the name "Namjoon". Jimin once again repeated this aloud.
The green tailed merman was "Hoseok", the navy was "Taehyung", the red tailed merman was "Jungkook" and finally the black galaxy tailed merman was "Yoongi".
Jimin repeated all of their names aloud to them so they would know if he was directing something towards them.
"Hungry?" He then gestured to them, asking them a question. He didn't know if they kept to the same 3 meal a day plan as humans did or if they had a different meal schedule.
Taehyung and Jungkook nodded enthusiastically, tails beating against the sand, sending water flying over them. Yoongi made a noise of protest at them, being situated beside Taehyung meaning he got splashed in the process.
Jimin reached into his pack and produced 6 lunch boxes and took out the palm leaf parcels that held a variety of foods. From small pieces of sushi style fish and some kimchi since they all seemed to love that.
He handed them out and they were taken gratefully. They all had gotten the idea of pulling the sting to open it by now. They all delighted in the small meals Jimin had prepared.
He had more packs in his bag for later if they were still hungry, since Jimin was taking up much of their day and potentially their hunting time. So he wanted to make up for that. Not wanting them to go hungry for his own selfish desire to see them so regularly.
Jimin pulled out his sketch pad, making notes of their names beside the coloured in sketches. He stood up, Latte made a sound of disapproval. He rounded the mermen and pulled out his phone snapping a photo of as much of their tales as was visible from the water.
He sat back down, the mermen were looking at him in confusion but he didn't see them as he was too focused on drawing the different style tails on each of the pages dedicated to each merman. Tounge sticking out as he concentrated.
Taehyung tapped his ankle to gain his attention. Before Namjoon began to sign slowly.
"What is that?" Then he gestured towards the sketch pad.
Jimin flushed alittle, but if you asked him it was entirely from the heat of the sun.
He slowly turned around the sketch pad to show an in depth picture of all of the mermen lying on the beach. It captured all of the attention of the mermen.
"Us?" Hoseok signed then pointed at them all.
Jimin nodded, hiding his blushing cheeks behind the sketch pad as they all made noises of approval.
