Author POV

Jin was tired. He may have been athletic and strong, but carrying another full grown mer on his back for a day long journey had been tiring to say the least.

He didn't see the net of rope till to late. Soon his tail and scales were tangled, every thrash he made when he realised the situation he had unknowing swum into. The ropes only tightened in his panic, he was well and truly trapped.

His shrieks of terror, were dredged of long lasting pstd. He remembered the pirates of the past, how they had done the same. But somehow this net felt different to the ones of the past.

It was thinner but stronger, wrapped tight like a vice around his tail, cutting between the scales and rubbing at the sensitive skin beneath. He howled in pain as his blue blood stained the darkening water, due to the time descending into the darkness of night.

"Jin" his fellow mer came rushing to his aid, but it was too late, the net was already being hoisted up, since the water wasn't as deep beyond the sand bank, he was reaching the surface quickly.

Jin couldn't shift into his humanoid form, that only happened when you were of calm mind and out of water. The inner mer rejecting the human form when in the safety of water.

Jungkook tried to latch onto his hand, talons scraping across scales, in a desperate scrambled to hold onto his older brother figure.

Jin let out a gasp as he was hauled out of the water, the cold air hitting his exposed body.

"What the heck is that?" Jin had no comprehension of the human language. Jimin had been his only translator, and he had spoken in the language of hands.

He lay weak, vulnerable and terrified on the deck of the fishing boat. It was a great marina, designed to fish for a large amount of produce to feed many. Not the lonely boat of a single person hunting for their meal.

"I don't know, it kind of looks like a mermaid" Another remarked.

Jin turned to look with sensitive ears at the human. He bared his teeth a high pitched hissing sound emitting from his throat.

He could hear the powerful bangs of his fellow mer, slamming their tails against the side of the metal boat, in a hope to sink the creature to return Jin to the waters where he belonged.

"Hang on my sister is a marine biologist she might be interested" another spoke, they couldn't hear the banging on the boat like Jin could with his sensitive ears.

The wandered about aimlessly, getting ready to turn the boat around, to return to shore. Unaware of the merman's terror, as he desperately used sharp taloned claws to cut at the material wound tight around his body.

About 5 minutes later the human talking to the device, Jin remembers Jimin telling him that it was a phone, he hadn't really understood it. Still didn't to this day, all he knew was they could help humans communicate over distances.

"Turn her around, my sister wants to see it" the human exclaimed loudly.

"You don't think it needs to stay in water. It has gills, maybe it can't breath on land" another human remarked, gesturing to Jin's ears were the gills were behind them.

He could breath on land, but not as efficiently as under water.

"I don't know, throw him into the spare tank, where we were going to put this catch. It'll be fine in there." The human dismissed him.

Jin hissed as he was once again lifted and thrown into a tank of water, and a lit was locked over the top, designed in case a storm hit and the humans didn't want their catch to be thrown all over the deck.

They didn't bothered to untangle his tail, leaving the mer crying out in pain and discomfort. He used his deep water vision, it was useful for night as well, to home in on the netting. Using careful precise strikes to try and cut it free.

He kept on making high pitched sounds, hoping they carried to his fellow mer in the open water. Desperate to communicate, to hear their high pitched clicks and whistles in return.

But they didn't come, in audible due to the sound of the great tanker boar's engine as it began the trek back to dry land.

Neither party were able to rest, the mer in the open water tracked the boat back to land. Easily able to keep up with the slow moving machine.

By the time they had reached the land, it was early morning, dawn appearing on the horizon. Jin had removed all of the netting from his tail and torso.

His wounds healing over, but the pain still remained. He lay weak and unmoving at the bottom of the cramped tank, the humans had carelessly flung him into.

"Let's see this mer creature then, if you are having me on. I'll tell mum" there was a woman. Stern and disapproving on board.

"See I wasn't lying" the human from last night, Jin recognised his voice gestured to the pitiful sight of Jin at the bottom of the tank.

Jin didn't like the look in the human woman's eyes, they seemed demented. Far to excited, but not in a comforting way.

"Remarkable" was her only expression. "I'll take it, can you help me move it into the tank so I can transfer it back to my laboratory." The woman spoke to the man.

He nodded at whatever she had said. Jin had never wanted to understand humans, till he met his human mate. But now more than ever he wanted that skill. To understand what they were going to do with him.

The tank was opened, he could see another box, clear and full to the brim with water. It would be tight cramped, Jin had no intention of getting in willingly.

So the minute the tank opened he attacked.
