Author POV

Today was a peaceful day. Barely any wind, leaving the waves on the beach to be calm and almost none existent. The sun was low, a speckle of clouds dotted across the relatively empty blue sky.

Jimin sat on the beach, alone. He had yet to run his hand through the water to call the mermen. His guitar was in had, he wanted to practice. Maybe compose a new song. Being back on the mainland had brought Jimin out of his fantasy world. He suddenly remembered he had a job, had fans. Was a famous idol, one that wasn't performing for his fans.

The least he could do was come up with a new song in his absence, one that would resound with his fans. But also one that would convey his feelings. He had a note book beside him, though it was absent of any ideas or lyrics.

So he just sat there, guitar resting on his knees as he looked out over the ocean. He leant forward, resting his elbows on the flat front of the guitar, his face coming to rest in his hands.

He moved the guitar to oneside, walking down to the water. His bare feet leaving his trail in the soft sand. As his hand brushed through the water, he smiled sorrowfully. The water brought him his friends the mermen, but on the other hand it had caused him to lose his Grandfather.

But he was pulled from his thoughts by the sound of water splashing. It contrasted with the calm flow of the tide, so Jimin knew the mermen had to have just arrived.

He was right, Taehyung right up in his face confirmed that. He still had to teach them personal space.

"Hi Tae" Jimin didn't bother signing to the merman. He stood up, Taehyung unable to follow him due to having no human legs currently. He instead leant down against the cool wet sand.

The mermen made several sounds, possibly communicating in their language. Jimin brought his guitar closer as he sat down infront of the mermen.

"What's that?" Hoseok asked.

Looking at the foreign item with curiosity. His lime green scales shimmering in the sun as he leant closer to Jimin to see the item closer.

"A guitar. It makes music" Jimin explained.

To prove his point Jimin strummed along the strings, they emitted a sound that had the mermen perking up. So Jimin did it again, purely to watch their faces light up in childish curiosity.

So he tried again, he began to play one of the songs he usually plays on stage for his fans. The mermen quickly become enraptured by the song, leaning closer as if under a spell. Then Jimin smiles as he begins to sing he lyrics.

The mermen's black eyes snap up to him immediately. Jimin should theoretically feel uncomfortable by the mermen's unblinking staring. Their full pitch black eyes focused on him, not daring to miss a moment of the performance.

He felt powerful.

He had 6 of the most dangerous creatures of the sea enraptured. As if he were a siren and they were drawn in by his dangerously beautiful song. But this song held no ill intentions, because this human loved the mermen before him. He had never truly realised it until this moment.

He loved them.

As much as he loved the music he played. As much as the lyrics he sang, as much as the emotions he poured like magic into his songs. He was the mermen's human siren and their only love.

He stung out the last cord, making it echo in the silence, letting it flow with the tide that silently crashed against the shore. He felt the sand beneath his feet, the light sea breeze prickle along his skin.

And when he looked up, the mermen's eyes were still upon him. Their faces showed no emotion but Jimin could see they were experiencing an array of them, their eyes betrayed them.

"Another" Jimin imagined that if the word had been spoken verbally, it would have been quiet and almost shy. Scared to break the atmosphere that surrounded them like magic.

But the silent gesture seemed to solidify the silence of the scene. Slowly with a controlled breath, Jimin began his next song. It was a slow song, one that he had named 'The dance of the fae'. It was a song that had repeatedly been called magical, almost fantasy like by his fans.

This song enraptured the mermen once again. With their heads resting on their hand, their eyes not leaving their mate. Their human.

As he sung the songs like a siren. He would have made a beautiful merman. A greedy selfish part of the mermen wanted him to be a mermen. But they knew their human loved his land and to part him from it would break his heart. Something the mermen wanted to avoid at all costs.

They loved him, they all did. At first it had been biology, the love of first sight. He was their mate they were designed to love eachother, be the perfect partner and accomplice to eachother.

But now their love had passed this stage, they had devotion behind their love. They had reason, no longer just biology, now their hearts had become involved in this game of love. Both sides were losing as they both fall harder and faster.

Being submerged almost like they were being swallowed by quick sand. Or by the rip of the tide. But none of them could fight back, they had already drowned, with no way of rising back to the surface. It wasn't like they were trying anyway.

"I love you" Jimin whispered at the end of the song. It was in the human language, unintelligible to the mermen.

But it felt good to admit it allowed. To say it to them, to mean it. The bay became silent and the tide was heard once again, no longer blended into the background.

Without prompting Jimin began the next song, and his audience was once again entangled within the magic of the moment.
