Author POV

Jimin gathered up his gear, he was planning on going to the main land tomorrow on the motor boat he has stored at the pier. But the problem was reassuring the mermen that he would be back.

When he had told them initially they had all be devastated, not understanding why Jimin couldn't say with them. He had told them all the stuff he needed from the mainland, they had tried to dive into the sea to find replacements in a desperate attempt to try and prevent him from leaving.

He eventually managed to persuade them that he had to go, it felt painful as he had looked upon their faces, clear heartbreak shown upon them. The mermen were less inclined to disguise their emotions like humans do, so Jimin was subjected to the heartbreaking expressions that only amplified the guilt building in his chest.

He as a way to make up for it promised to spend the whole day with the mermen. He trailed down the cliff path to the bay at 10 am as promised. Bringing a large bag of food, the last of his food to be exact. He had left some for breakfast in the next morning but not much more than that.

He had left the cats at home today, mostly because he was unable to find them. They hadn't even turned up for their food, Jimin left it out anyway for when they did finally show up.

He deposited his large bag onto the sand and removed his shoes and headed out to the water, shivering slightly as the lukewarm water rushed around his feet and ankles. He bent down into a crouch as he observed the sea shells. Maybe he should decorate the outside of the house with sea shells as his Grandmother had. It would look pretty he decided.

But he was pulled out of his thoughts by the mermen appearing. They whipped around in the water with ease coming to rest on the shoreline as they always did. Stomachs pressed to the sand, eyes trained upon Jimin's form. He remained lost in thought as his fingers traced over the sea shell in his hands.

Hoseok made an impatient nickering noise that drew Jimin's attention to them. They liked that better, like it when Jimin focused on them, and rhem alone.

Jungkook had dragged him closer to see what Jimin was cradling in his hands. He tilted his head to the side in curiosity when he saw the item, his wet red hair falling into his pitch black eyes, though it didn't seem to bother him in the slightest. Probably used to it Jimin assumed.

"Pretty" Jungkook signed to him.

Jimin nodded agreeing with him.

"I was thinking of using shells to decorate my house. They are pretty, could you help me find some. There isn't many on the beach" Jimin implored them for their help.

The mermen looked delighted by the task they had been given. They slid back on their stomachs and into the water, going in search of the prettiest shells they could find for their human.

Yoongi remained on the shore with Jimin, keeping an eye on him.

"Hi Yoongi" Jimin signed to him.

Yoongi smiled at him, it was a smile full of sharp teeth. Yet Jimin found it strangely endearing. Cute even. He came to sit infront of the merman, the merman reached out a hand the one that wasn't propping up his torso. Clasping the scaled hand around Jimin's dry hands.

Jimin marveled at the merman's long fingers covered in shiny black scales, much like the rest of his body was. He rarely got to interact with Yoongi like this he realised. The merman usually being rather shy and reserved compared to the others.

So he took the rare precious moment, holding it to his heart and committing it to his memory. Yoongi pulled Jimin's hand closer, inspecting it, he then trailed his fingers along the small  scratches that still remained from the meeting with Mocha.

He leant down and pressed his lips to the scratches, it was intimate, which made Jimin flush red. Yoongi tilting his head to the side when he looked up, unsure of why Jimin had almost turned as red as Jungkook's hair and scales.

Namjoon popped up beside them, his silvery scales reflecting the sun that was on it's way to midday. Creating little rainbows as the sun glinted off the silver tuna fish like scales as he moved about, depositing the shells upon the beach at Jimin's feet.

Jimin took them with a smile, holding one he liked the most to his chest. He signed out the words

"Thank you Namjoon" the silver merman dipped his head in embarrassment. Jimin wondered if mermen could blush, because Namjoon if he were a human would certainly be blushing right now. But his scales seemed to remain the same so maybe mermen were unable to blush. Which made the shy display even more endearing to Jimin.

Soon all the mermen were popping out of the water depositing large stacks of shells onto the beach for Jimin to select from. He did so with a critical eye, taking the shells that were what he viewed as the prettiest, placing them carefully into the bag he had brought down with him.

He thanked the mermen each in turn, making them smile. Yoongi had disappeared as the others began returning soon coming back with his own pile though it was significantly smaller that the others he had still clearly collected the shells with a careful eye for detail.

As Jimin offered out food to them, as it was swiftly reaching midday.

"He initiated the next step of courtship" Jungkook said excitedly.

The only response to his statement was brought grins as the mermen basked in the careful attention of their human mate as he continued to bring small packages of food from his bag on the beach to them.

So Jimin is completing parts of the mermen courtship acts without realising he is doing it.

Anyway I hope you liked it.
