Lyra's POV
Present
"The next day, i woke up and-"
"Wait I'm so confused" he interrupted me and i lowered my head in disbelief
"What now" i said a little annoyed
"Sorry but- i think you went way ahead" he said
"I did?" I said as I quickly recalled my story, but nothing seemed out of order
"No I didn't" i said
"Then how did you and him get so close? I mean you guys are supposed to be enemies right?" He questioned and i smiled
"You know what they say right?" I said softly but with a hint of amusement
"Keep your friends close, but your enemies even closer"
2 months ago
The next morning i woke up, last night's events coming to me as a headache
"Ugh" i smacked my own head, annoyed with myself
"Why do i have to be so vulnerable" i muttered as the whole conversation echoed in my head and i gritted my teeth in horror
What if he tells someone?- my brain told me and i sighed
"I'll make sure he doesn't" i told myself and ran out of bed
I did my morning routine, changed into professional clothes and then headed out of the room
I ran to the kitchen- that was empty
Thats weird.
I walked towards the garden, the pool and even the lounge room but there was no one
Maybe they're all somewhere doing something- I convinced my racing heart and then headed out
My car was the only car in the driveway and it gave my assumption a support
I sighed in relief and then walked to my car
The car soon drove out of the driveway and i headed to the office
"Boss" a man ran to me quickly as i parked my car and got out
"La notte scorsa-" [last night-]
"Buenoguirono" [good morning] I interrupted him and he got silent, embarrassed
"Buenoguirono signora" [good morning Ma'am] he said sheepishly
I smiled as we walked inside the high rise building, all eyes on me as soon as i entered through the glass doors
I confidently made my way through the halls, smiling through my staff and soon i was by the lift
Leo pressed the button and the lift came soon enough, we stepped inside and the door closed
He pressed the 34th floor button and the lift ascended once again
Soon, we got to the floor which was basically the floor with all the executives of the company
I walked to the end to see a silver plate shining on the door- reading my name
"Lyra Lembarti" i read the plate and opened my door
"I will bring the files" Leo said from behind me and disappeared into his cabin
I walked further into my room and closed the door behind me, finally slumping my shoulders
I looked around my room and then at my table, where a stack of files rested- all waiting to be skimmed/signed and negotiated
If i knew this company was this much work, I would've never used it as a disguise
I headed to the table and started with the first file, a collaboration proposal
Minutes turned into hours and every time i thought i was getting closer to being done, Leo bought even more files
Soon, i had signed a handful, rejected a lot and settled aside a few to be negotiated
I leaned back in my chair as I cracked my neck a little, and sighed in frustration
The knock on my door for the 100th time [its an exaggeration] came through and i looked up to see a tiny Leo peeking inside
"Im really sorry but this is the last one- i promise" he said with pure apologetic tone and a small smile appeared on my face
"Its okay, bring it on" i said to him and he opened the door fully and stepped in
"I know you're only an intern- and its a lot of work for you alone right now" i said to him as he placed the file on my desk
"I can manage, its just the company was getting so many emails and offers that I couldn't keep track" he said and i smiled
I glanced at the company name and my eyes widened in horror
"When did this offer come in?" I asked him a little confused and he thought
"I believe it was yesterday afternoon" he said and i gulped
"Is something wrong?" He asked me
"Nope, all good- you can leave now" i said quickly and he left without asking anything else
I stared at the file in horror that very prominently stated
