Lyra's POV
"Mama" i mumbled, deep in sleep
"Come back" i let out a cry and instantly, someone's hands went over mine
I tried to fight the darkness, mustering up the courage to open my eyes
Finally
My eyes opened to views of plain ceiling
Did i actually die?
I looked around me, my head still pounding furiously
"Ugh" i let out a small sigh and someone's hand placed themselves on my hair
I looked up to see Melissa
She looked like she had been crying for hours
"What happened?" I spoke, my dehydration setting itself in place
"You got sh-hot" Melissa said barely controlling her breath
"I got really scared" Melissa said, her voice cracking
This sudden emotion caught me off guard, and I didn't know what to do
She looked like she was going to die if I hadn't survived
A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts and soon, the door squealed open
Arthur peeked his face inside, and then opened the door fully once he saw me awake
His eyes turned softer and his face turned bright
"Im going to check with the doctors" Melissa said giving my hand a squeeze, and passing me a bright smile
I let out a small smile as she walked outside and closed the door behind her
"Lyra" Arthur walked to me, slowly at first
He sat down beside me, taking my hand in his
"Are you okay?" He asked me and i nodded
"I got so scared" he said placing his hand beneath my jaw
I tried to get up, but my body didn't let me
"Wait" he leaned across me, his body hovering over mine
He switched some buttons and slowly, the mattress lifted itself up
"Thats good" i said as i sat up, and he stopped the movement
He pulled himself back, his face meeting me halfway
Our lips were inches apart, and his shaky breath was fanning my nose
"Arthur" i softly whispered his name, as my entire body yearned for his touch
He took my face in his hands, softly
Gently, he placed his lips on mine
I closed my eyes as i got lost in his arms
The kiss felt unreal, or maybe everything feels unreal right now because I barely escaped death
"Don't ever leave me again" he broke the kiss and placed his forehead against mine
"Never" i said smiling
"I love you" he said and i blinked
"Huh" i said confused
"I love you Lyra, i really do" he said, his hand caressing my cheek
His words hit me for some reason, and unwanted tears welled up in my eyes
"Why are you crying? Did i hurt you somehow?" Arthur said worried, stepping back
"No" i held his arm, stopping him from going away
"Its just these words" i said
"No one has said them to me in a long long time" i said recalling the dream and he smiled
"Well i did" he smiled and his smile made me smile
"Aren't you going to say it back?" He said
"Do i have to?" I said sheepishly and he looked at me
"I love you too" i said and he bought his face closer to me
"I don't know what effect you have on me, but its crazy" he said and i smiled
"I actually didn't think i was going to fall in love ever, but you changed it for me" he said, his eyes sparkly
"Don't ever leave me" he said again
"I won't leave, i promise" i said
we looked at each other for a while, until someone's arrival broke our moment
"Come in" Arthur said, kissing me one last kiss and pulling away
I was red by now, and it was very much evident
Andrew walked inside, and looked between me and Arthur
"Lyra" he said as he walked to me
"Are you okay?" He caressed my hair, looking at my bandages
"Doctors said she's okay, she should be discharged by today" Arthur said and Andrew eyed him for a second
"Is it all over now? I hate how you almost di-d for all this" Andrew said worried
"Im fine and its over. Thank you" i said smiling wide
"You stuck with me through everything, I don't know how to describe how i feel" i said, emotions taking over
"I'm always here for you Lyra" he said giving my hand a small squeeze
Andrew walked over to Arthur, whispering something in his ear
Soon, Andrew gave me a kiss on the forehead and then left the room
"What did he say?" I asked confused
"Nothing" Arthur said smiling
I narrowed my eyes at him and he struggled to keep his laugh
"Tell me" i pouted a little and he burst out laughing
"You're adorable i swear" he said and i blinked
I really feel like this is all yet another dream
"He just said to take care of you, and that if i ever hurt you, he will hunt me down" Arthur said and i broke away from my thoughts
"He cares about you a lot" Arthur said and i nodded
"He's the first person that agreed to help me, even when i had nothing" i said smiling wide
"So is he leaving now that its all over?" Arthur asked
"I hope not" i said, my smile fainting
It would hurt me if he was to leave me alone
"Now that everything is done, what are you going to do?" Arthur asked and i smiled
"I'm going to rebuild the architectural firm, and actually turn it into a business" i said, remembering my mom's words
"I can help you if you want" he said
"I want to do it on my own" i smiled
"But you know after those long working hours, I wouldn't mind coming home to be with a certain someone" i said and he chuckled
"I guess I'll be a good fit for that" he said picking me up swiftly
I casually wrapped my arms around his neck, leaning into him as he set me on his lap
I softly kissed him as he held me, and all my worries of the world faded away
