Vine Staff's curse had gotten worse. She tried everything to cure it, but nothing was enough. On the last day, she lay in the backyard. Shuriken was crying while Lilac was frowning. Vine Staff took her time explaining to Lilac the gentle ways of life, and telling Shuriken how much she loved him Vine Staff smiled as she finally became a tree. She was a blossom tree, and Lilac would watch Shuriken visit her tree every day.

        Shuriken wished the curse never overtook Vine Staff. He would tell her how life was going. What the relationship with Boombox was like, and how he was managing without her. It had hurt him so much, but he knew to keep going. Shuriken realized that Lilac was just a replacement, but it was never the same. It would never be the same. He couldn't forget the past, not with someone who had been with him his whole life.

       Shuriken would help Lilac with watering the plants and even grew more in the garden. It all reminded him of Vine Staff, and he kept keeping in his tears. Life was depressing for Shuriken without Vine Staff. He remembered how Vine Staff would tell him stories, and how Vine Staff would hum songs with headphones on.

      Sometimes, in the middle of the night, when Shuriken would cry, he thought he could hear Vine Staff's voice. She would whisper how much she loved him, and how he needed to keep going. She would tell him how much she would love to stay, but she couldn't. She told him how she was always listening to him. She told him to trust Lilac, and that he should rely on her for support. Shuriken would always listen to her words. No matter what, he missed her, and he knew this was Vine Staff.

       These words would replay in his mind over and over again when he planted. Lilac would watch him from the window, too, to make sure there was no trouble. Every once and a while, Lilac would ask if Shuriken was okay. Shuriken would immediately start crying and vent to her about how much he missed Vine Staff. Lilac would listen to him. She would hear every word, and reply with wise comments.

     Every two weeks, Boomgox would arrive. He would try and make Shuriken feel better, and normally it would work. Shuriken would be crying in bed, and Boombox could make him laugh. Even if it meant that he had to use a dad joke, or embarrass himself. He wanted Shuriken to be happy again.

       Be happy again.
