I couldn't help but feel guarded as I waited at the airport with the social service woman by my side. My mind kept drifting to the fact that these people had abandoned me years ago, and now they wanted me back. I couldn't understand why they would come back into my life after all this time. The social worker tried to make small talk with me, but I had no interest in answering her annoying questions.

Part of me hoped that they would just kick me out as they did before, so I could go back to staying with my actual family, the Hernandezs. After all, they were the ones who truly cared about me, not these strangers who had abandoned me and were now suddenly interested in having me back.

Suddenly, I caught sight of movement out of the corner of my eye. I turned my head and saw them. My father and older brother were approaching me with huge smiles on their faces. My heart sank at the sight of them. They were strangers to me, and yet they were supposed to be my family. It was a confusing and conflicting feeling, to say the least.

As they drew closer, I could see that my father's eyes were moist with tears. He looked at me with a mixture of emotions—joy, relief, and regret, perhaps. My older brother was grinning from ear to ear, but something in his expression made me uneasy. It was as if he was trying too hard to make me like him.

I felt a lump form in my throat, and my hands began to shake. All of a sudden, I was overwhelmed by a sense of fear and anger. How could they just waltz back into my life after abandoning me? And why did they think they could just pick up where they left off?

I took a deep breath and tried to steady myself. The social worker gently nudged me and whispered that it was time to go. I stood up and picked up my backpack, ignoring the outstretched hand that my father had offered me. I could feel their eyes on my back as we walked towards the exit.

We walked for a while until my dad suddenly turned in a different direction. "Alessa, this way," he said, pointing towards a separate area of the airport. I followed silently, my curiosity piqued. As we walked, I noticed that we were headed toward the private jet section of the airport.

My eyes widened as I saw the impressive machines that belonged to my father. I couldn't help but think how rich these people were—apparently wealthy enough to have their own private jet. And yet, they had so many children but had to give one away.

We arrived at a secluded area where my father's private jet was parked. I couldn't help but feel a sense of discomfort as I stood before them, unsure of what to say or how to act.

My father put a hand on my shoulder and said, "We're waiting for your brother Xavier. We have to pick him up too." I nodded, still feeling overwhelmed by the situation.

As we waited, my mind kept wandering back to the Hernandezes, my real family. They were the ones who took care of me and loved me unconditionally.

Finally, Xavier arrived at the private jet section of the airport. As soon as I saw him, I knew who he was. He was the doctor I bumped into yesterday.

Xavier looked at me and paused, as if he recognized me, but didn't say anything. I couldn't help but wonder if he remembered me from the hospital. I tried to push the thought out of my mind and focus on the present. I just hoped he didn't say anything.

"Hey, Alessa, it's good to see you again," Xavier finally said, breaking the awkward silence.

I nodded, not sure what to say. I was still reeling from the fact that my father and brother had shown up out of nowhere to take me back.

"We should get going," my father said, interrupting the conversation. "We have a long flight ahead of us."

Xavier led the way onto the private jet, and my father and brother followed. I hesitated for a moment, taking in the luxurious interior of the plane. It was a far cry from the cramped apartments I had lived in my entire life.

Finally, I stepped onto the plane and took a seat. Why did they suddenly want me back in their lives after all these years?

As the plane took off, I felt a sense of unease settle in my stomach. I was leaving behind the only family I had ever known and entering a world that was completely foreign to me. I had no idea what was in store for me, but one thing was for sure.

Nothing would ever be the same again.
