MAHI POV

We got into the car. "Everyone seems quite excited for us," I remarked. "Yes, they think you're the girl I was supposed to marry," he replied. "I feel like I've missed a lot of things. I just came back from my graduation and found out Sakshi di is getting married. It's a shocker for me," I said. "Hmm, she told me she's planning a surprise for you," he said.

"I still don't understand why you agreed to marry me if you love Sakshi di," I questioned. He didn't look at me but kept his gaze straight. "Mahi, one day I'll tell you everything. Don't worry, I won't ruin your life. Once everything settles, I'll apply for a divorce so you can live on your terms," he assured me.

I felt numb. I didn't know why, but I didn't like what he said. I was sad, but why? It's not like I love him or something. I think I love his family. "Do you think this is a joke? Divorce and everything?" I asked. "You don't want it," he observed, looking at me.

"It's not about what I want or don't want. But getting a divorce will label me as a failure, and I don't want that stigma," I explained. "Marry? I thought you wanted to fulfill your dreams," he remarked. "Yes, I do, but I don't want to spend my life alone. I also thought of marrying someone I love one day," I admitted, looking at him. He remained silent.

"Do you love somebody?" he softly inquired. "No, not right now. But maybe in the future," I replied. "I'm sorry," he apologized. "No, don't be. You weren't the only one. My father agreed to this too," I disclosed, feeling a surge of anger.

"No, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have brought this conversation up now," he said. "It's fine," I replied, trying to control my emotions.

We reached our destination, a huge restaurant named 'La Marine.' Everyone was already settled. "Welcome, sir," the gatekeeper greeted us. We joined the others, who were all having a good time. We ordered dinner, and Sana asked if anyone wanted drinks.

"Mahi, would you like anything?" Sana asked. "No, I don't think she drinks," Sid commented. How did he know I don't drink? I had to prove him wrong. "Actually, yes. I would like to order Gin," I said, surprising Sid.

"You don't drink, right?" he questioned. "I do," I affirmed, feeling a little scared. I hadn't drunk anything until now. Our drinks arrived after ten minutes. "Mahi, are you sure?" Sid asked. I gave him a look. "Here's your drink, Mahi," Sana said, and we all cheered with our drinks.

Sid had ordered whisky. I took a first sip of Gin, and it was smooth. I liked it. We all had our drinks, and dinner followed. I drank more Gin; it was good. "Are you okay?" Sid asked. "Yeah," I replied. "Anyone up for more drinks?" Mom asked. "Yes, one more Gin," I said, giving Sid a look. I drank more and more until my mind started feeling dizzy.

"I'm going to the washroom," I announced and stepped out. I needed some fresh air. Thoughts were swirling in my mind—divorce, Sakshi di's coma, everything. My life felt like a mess, and tears threatened to spill.

"Mahi," I heard Sid's voice. "Yeah," I replied. "What happened?" he asked. "Nothing, it's just... I don't know what's going on in my life," I said, my mind buzzing. "My life is a mess," I confessed as tears began to fall.

"Mahi, who says your life is a mess?" he comforted. "I know, I don't know what's going to happen to me," I said. "Nothing bad will happen. Everything will be okay. You agreed to be my friend, right? I'm always here for you. I may not be a good husband, but as a friend, I'll always be there," he reassured, pulling me into a hug.

"Don't cry, Mahi. I'm here for you," he said as I hugged him back, crying even more. "Don't cry, Mahi," he repeated, holding me and caressing my hair. "Mahi, I know your life has changed. I know this wasn't what you expected. I'm sorry for everything I did. I don't want to ruin your life," he said, holding me tighter.

"Don't cry, Mahi. I'll be there for you, and I won't let your life be ruined. You'll be happy, and you'll achieve your dreams," he promised. I felt relieved hearing his words. I looked at him, and he wiped my tears away gently. "Please don't cry," he said softly. "Hmm," I replied.

"And thank you for the brownies that day," he said with a smirk. I giggled a little. "You're bad," I teased. "Come on, you didn't tell me you bought them for me," he retorted playfully.

"Anyway, let's go. Everyone must be wondering where we are," I said. "It doesn't matter right now. I just want to say one thing," he said, looking at me again. "Mahi, please don't ever cry like that again in front of me," he said softly.

"Why? Are you in love with me?" I blurted out.
