Sherlock decided to choose a gold banded ring because it is traditional. He isn't normally the major romantic type but he chose that particular ring because he knew that it would be blingy enough to excite you but not too standoffish to detract from your natural beauty. The proposal was simple too, he just asked you after dinner one night when you were watching doctor who.

John opted for a silver ring because he thinks they look incredibly elegant. You actually decided on the ring together after John proposed. You tried to persuade him to get one with only one diamond in it because otherwise it would be too expensive. He didn't listen. After you got the ring fitted, he asked for another two diamonds to be added in secret. When the ring arrived you were ecstatic, it showed that he really loves you.

Mycroft went all out when choosing your engagement ring. He scoured London to find a jewellers which sold huge diamond rings. Finally, he settled on a silver ring that contained over 78 diamonds in all. When he proposed, you took one look at the ring, smiled and fainted. Luckily, Mycroft caught you and you said yes while snuggling in his arms.

The ring Greg chose looks like a tiara. That's why he chose it, he wanted to show you that you are his special princess. Greg actually proposed to you at Scotland Yard on your birthday, everyone lined up and gave you presents until Greg proposed to you as his gift. Anderson was extremely annoyed at this as he had bought you a ruby necklace (he genuinely thought he was going to win you over).
