"How come you don't ever smile?"

My friend's question's so random, making me turn to look at him.

"I've known you for almost a year and I don't think I've ever seen you smile." He repeats, making me shrug.

"I don't know, Gerard. I guess I just don't feel like forcing myself to do things that aren't genuine." I sigh, leaning against the shingles of my roof.

"Well, I'm making it a goal of mine to make you smile." He giggles, making me shake my head.

"I can't believe you actually noticed that." I point out, "I didn't even notice it."

Gerard's giggles die down, so I turn to look at him, seeing he had mimicked my actions. I stare at his hazel eyes, which shine a dark brown in the moonlight. We stay like that for a minute, just staring at each other in a comfortable silence.

"Every time I've drawn you, you're always making the same face. Like you're letting your thoughts takeover, your eyes always look like you're in a daze, like you'd rather be anywhere else than where you're actually at." He explains, closing his eyes, leaving me to admire his expression. " Whenever you close your eyes, they get darker. The light leaves, making your eyes darken three shades. Your eyes get glossed over, almost like you're about to cry, but you never do. Like you're in a living nightmare."

Sudden realization hits me as his words register through my brain, and before I could even think, I blurt out. "You drew pictures of me?"

Gerard's eyes fly open, his pupils dilating only to shrink again due to the light. It takes a moment before he answers "Oh, um, a few times."

Even though the only light source we're given on the roof is one street light and the moon, neither are showing on his face, but I can tell he's blushing.

"That's cool." I reply, making the ghost of a smile appear on his face.

"I'll show you them once I can draw you where you're smiling." He bargains, making me nod.

"Deal." I promise.

Time Skip (3 years)

I couldn't help but laugh at my friends' antics on stage, there's Frank flopping around like a fish on land, Ray and Mikey look normal, and then there's Gerard who looks like he may or may not be having a seizure.

'God they're insane.' I think to myself, looking out at the crowd who looked so at home.

"This next song, I'm gonna have my friend come out here." Gerard looks over at me, smiling.

I shake my head no, only for him to walk over to me.

"Please come on stage." He pleads, trying to take my hand.

"Gerard, no." I state, smiling slightly.

He doesn't take no for an answer as he  easily picks me up and carries me onto the stage.

"Gerard, I swear to god, put me back down." I yell, after the venue got quiet.

Without putting me down, Gerard proceeds to speak into the microphone.

"This is y/n, who's been friends with all of us since The Black Parade. She helped me write this next song without even knowing it, so I thought that the best thing was to bring her out here." He gently placed me down, only for me to stumble a little. His arms wrapped around my frame, steadying me slightly.

"You okay?" He whispers when he leans by my ear.

"I'm gonna kill you later." I reply, smirking.

"We'll see about that." He taunts, as the intro to the next song begins to blare through the amps. Summertime.

I can feel the vibrations in my feet, that's how loud it is. Everyone's screaming is making me feel overwhelmed, god.

As the guys play the ending of the song, Gerard takes my hand lightly and twirls me cautiously, causing me to laugh again.

"You're smiling." He points out.

"I guess I am." I smile, looking up at his eyes.

He gently takes my face in his hands, placing his lips to mine.

I never want to forget this feeling.
