I nodded, dragging my hand through my hair again. I could feel her eyes on me.

"Yeah, they're my boys but....honestly, it would just be better for you if you didn't come back to this house. If you forgot all of us existed. We're not good for you. I'm not good for you."

I let my eyes meet hers again. I wanted her to understand. To leave and never come back...but I wanted her to stay so badly, I actually felt my chest clench when I thought of never seeing her again.

I didn't notice her hand reaching out to mine, until I felt the warmth of her fingertips sliding over my skin.

"That's for me to decide, don't you think?"

The monster roared deep inside of me, wanting to grab her and throw her back on the bed, sink my fangs deep inside of the porcelain skin of her throat, her wrist, her thighs...everywhere.

I know that the silver ring in my eyes that told what I was had to be shining, contracting. She was going to make me lose control one day...but today wasn't that day. I slid my hand out from under hers, trying to ignore the hurt look on her face.

"You don't understand." I said, standing up so that I could get further away from her for a moment. "We're dangerous. I could hurt you." I grabbed my hair with both hands, pulling, trying to distract myself. "You make me so damn angry without even trying! My...anger...can get out of control easily, especially when it comes to you."

"Colby," I was so engrossed in my own mind, I hadn't even realized that she stood next to me.

Damn, was she making me lose my reflexes and senses too? I turned to face her, automatically realizing that it was a mistake.

Her emotions were running high, making her scent stronger as usual, but what got me the most...what got me the most were the tears swimming in her eyes. I put my hands on both sides of her face, trying to ignore my monster. He was getting stronger though. I wouldn't be able to ignore him for long.

"Why are you crying?"

She sniffed and gave me a watery smile. Damn it, she was beautiful.

"Because you make me fucking crazy too, and I don't like to feel crazy. Because you seem to be hurting from something that you won't tell me about, which is understandable, since we don't know each other, but..." She placed one of her smaller hands on my cheek, and I closed my eyes at the warmth, while the monster tried to take control. "I don't believe that you will hurt me. Elton maybe," She laughed a little, but that pissed me off.

He just might if given the chance and I would kill him if he did. Any of them. Except maybe Sam. I opened my eyes, noticing that my anger made her flinch away just a little, but she kept her hand on my face.

"He will not hurt you. I won't let him."

Her eyes went wide, a little frightened. "I was kidding. Should I be worried?"

I sighed, releasing a big breath. "No...just...just don't be around them alone. Especially Elton. He's not as...controlled as the rest of us. Plus Circa has better manners than him."

I removed my hands from her face, and pulled her own hand away from mine. I laced my fingers through hers, and pulled her back to the bed to sit next to me.

"Are you ready to go back downstairs?" I asked roughly, hoping she was say yes, because I knew it wouldn't be long before I really needed to get away from her...but hoping she would say no, because I was actually enjoying myself for the first time in a long time. I mean, golf was fun but this was so...real.

She looked at me, and blushed a little, making the monster crave her even more. "No," She replied, no hesitation. "I want to keep talking, if that's okay with you. You...and your friends...you intrigue me."

Oh yeah, she was a writer. I should look into that more.

 "You're a writer, right?"

Her brows creased, as she looked at me. "How did you know that?" She asked quizzically.

Oh shit. I forgot that I had overheard that part when I was spying...fuck.

"Um, I think I heard Kat say it one day. Talking to Sam or something."

Yeah, that seemed legit.

"Oh, well, yeah, I am. I love to write. Mainly short stories, but I'm working on a novel now, just not sure where it's going. Kat tells me that's why I'm so nosy." She smiled, thinking about her friend.

"So, you're not like a reporter or anything?" I asked.

Needed to get that out of the way. She shook her head.

"No, why? Trying to hide something Mr. Brock?"

I scoffed. "I got plenty of things to hide Miss Daniels."

She brought her bottom lip into her mouth, chewing on it, as she stared me in the eyes. My eyes flicked from her eyes to her lips, feeling the monster clawing at his cage.

Oh he wanted her badly, in more ways than one.

"Can I ask you some questions?" she asked, hesitantly.

Probably not a good idea...but I didn't have to answer them I guess.

I nodded. "I may not answer them, but you can ask."

"Okay...how did you meet your friends?"

Really Chloe? I met them when I was changed into a vampire and they became my family. Couldn't say that though, could I?

"Well...I met Sam in high school. We hit it off, both outcasts, became best friends. He's my brother. We moved here together, got involved in some shady things, but made a decent amount of cash in the process. Got in an...altercation, got hurt, met Elton. He helped us get better, get used to LA, and introduced us to Corey and Devyn. I met Jake shortly after he moved out here, at a club. We hit it off. Kevin and Mike...well I met them during some business deals. Now we're all sort of....family, I guess." A simple answer, with no real information. That works. I could do this.
