Katrina walked out onto the balcony with Sam and I.

"Hey, everything okay out here?"

I nodded at her. "Yeah. Thanks for staying with her."

She glared at me for a moment, I guess remembering why Chloe was mad at me. "I'm not doing it for you. I'm doing it for her. She's my best friend, my sister. I'll do anything for her. Don't make me regret not telling her that you're out here. You stay out here on this balcony tonight. Understood?"

I rolled my eyes.

She was annoying sometimes.

"Yeah Kat, I get it. I just want to make sure that you guys don't get any unexpected visitors. That's all. I want to make sure that you're safe."

"What visitors?" She asked, looking at Sam.

Sam glanced at me and then back to Kat.

"Millie, maybe her minions. Possibly anyone that was at the party and saw that Colby cares about Chloe. A lot of people will jump at the chance to get one over on Colby. Just because they can."

Kat's eyes widened when she thought about what he was saying. "It's actually that bad, huh? You guys have enemies out there that want to bring you down. Why?"

Sam shrugged. "Because we're at the top. Others always want what you have. The power, the glory, the perks. There have always been other clans that want to take our spot and there always will be but we protect our own. You guys are part of us now. You always will be." His eyes softened as he looked at her, then drew her close to him.

I felt a sharp pang in my chest. Damn it, I wanted, I needed to be in there with Chloe.

I could hear the shower running so I knew what she was doing. This sucked so bad and I was honestly tired of it already...but I said I would give her the space she wanted. So I was going to do that the best way that I could without leaving her vulnerable.

The shower turned off, and I heard her moving around in her room.

"You guys don't have much time. I'm sure Chloe will be back in a few minutes. You going home Sam, or sticking around?"

"I'm gonna go home. Make sure they haven't destroyed the house. You know how they are with no direction." Sam shook his head. "I don't understand how they can be so disgusting sometimes. Especially Jake and Elton. It doesn't make sense. We're vampires. Doesn't mean that we have to be slobs." He sighed, probably thinking about the mess that he was going to have to clean up.

The other guys would help a little, sure, but Sam did the majority of the work. Hell, I was a slob too, but I tried to help because I knew it drove Sam crazy.

I heard Chloe's footsteps coming this way.

"She's coming."

They nodded at me and walked back inside, just as she came into the room. I ducked back into the shadows.

Chloe was suspicious about them being on the balcony but Kat covered it up pretty well. Sam left, and the girls chatted for a minute about food.

When was the last time that Chloe even ate? Damn, I hadn't even made sure that she was taking care of herself. Some boyfriend I was.

I watched her grab some granola bars, then take her laptop to her room. I settled back onto the balcony, and stared at the sky.

I heard the clicking of the keys on her keyboard as she started writing. She's probably working on that story that she told me about. I would love to read it...but she didn't want me to.

The one time that I had suggested it, she blushed and just said not yet. That was fine. I would read it one day...because we would be together again. I was certain of it.

There was no way that I was letting her go. I couldn't even if I wanted to. It was too late.

She typed for hours, until I heard the typing slow down, then eventually stop. There were footsteps again, and I saw her come back into the kitchen to grab another granola bar, then walk back to her room. I was glad that she was eating something.

She really needed to get some food in her apartment. I would call and get some delivered later.

I listened to her movements while I watched the sky. It wasn't long before her breathing got even and deep. She was asleep.

It was calming for me to listen to her breaths. I started drifting off myself, just from boredom when I heard her whimper, snatching me from my sleep.

"Colby," I heard her cry out.

She was having a nightmare. I darted inside the balcony door, seeing Kat asleep on the couch.

When I reached Chloe's door, I opened it slowly, and peered inside, trying not to wake her. She was shifting in her sleep, restless, while she whimpered and twisted and turned in her sleep. I walked to the other side of her bed and slipped her laptop off the bed, closed it and put it on her bedside table.

"Colby please, where are you?" She whimpered out.

I slid the cover back gently, and lay down next to her.

I slid my arm under her and drew her close to me.

"It's okay baby girl, I'm here."

She sighed and lay her head on my chest. I felt her body relax against me, and her breathing got heavy again. My heart twisted, knowing that I could calm her even in her sleep.

I lay with her, holding her close, enjoying the smell of her so close to me. I knew that I would have to leave her again soon. I wasn't going to let her know that I was here.

She didn't want me here. Well, her consciousness didn't but her subconscious obviously did. I smiled to myself. At least I knew that she did still want me.

After a couple of hours, I dozed off myself. Later, I woke to the sun burning the skin on my arm as it shone in through the window. It was time for me to go.

I slipped out from under Chloe. She shifted and moaned a little, but stayed asleep.
