A Second Chance

chapter thirty one

I woke up still in Marks arms from the previous night. He laid flat facing the ceiling and I was on his left side, my arms wrapped around his torso and his around my shoulder. Mark was still asleep his breaths were slow and consistent.

I began drawing circles around his shirtless torso. I still couldn't believe I was engaged, it didn't feel real yet. I was so happy but also kind of scared, I was scared of the future. I was scared of it ending. I have seen a lot of soulmates go through divorce and Mark and I don't have the best track record for our relationship. I guess I am just scared that in 10 years we fall out of love again and he and I will have to go through the divorce process. I will never forgive myself for putting our future kids and Sofia through that if it happens.

I guess that I am thinking about it too much I mean Mark and I love each other dearly. We always have.

Marks cold hand wrapped around the hand I was tracing circles.

"Morning" he spoke whilst intertwining our fingers and placing a kiss on my head

"Morning" I replied looking at our hands

There was silence for a while. Mark and I just continued to wrap our fingers together. Then he stopped and held my hand in his, he rubbed the engagement ring and kissed my head again.

"You're mine forever" he spoke twisting the ring around my finger

"Not until I say 'I do'" I replied

He tightened his grip around my waist and kissed my head again

"You will say it" he spoke wrapping both arms across my chest and kissing my head then my neck

"I might not" I joked

"Don't say that" he replied and I could feel his heart break a little

I shrugged my shoulders and Mark spun me over to face him.

"You will say it Alexandra"

I looked into his eyes "I don't know" I laughed "I don't think I want you in my life forever"

He laughed

"I could live without you and your dirty public flirting" I continued

"mhmm sure you can Lex" he replied "you couldn't last one day without me"

I thought about it "I could last a lifetime" I laughed and so did he.

I pressed my lips against his, we kissed for a long moment. Mark lifted me up and positioned me so I was straddling his lap. We continued to move our lips in motion until we pulled apart. Mark kissed my forehead.

"You sure you can live without that?" He asked pulling my hair behind my ear

I nodded slowly "yeah" I chuckled

Mark shook his head "shouldn't have said that Lex"

I looked confused for a moment until Mark lifted me up and threw me across to the other side of the bed

"Hey!" I yelled "that's not fair"

"You can come back when you promise you will say 'I do'" Mark replied with a smile

I rolled my eyes "that's blackmail"

Mark shrugged his shoulders and I shook my head.

"Just 2 words Lex and you can come back"

"Shut up" I replied and got up and walked over to him

I took his hands into mine and looked into his eyes "I promise"
