It was a new day. A good day.

Today was the day I had my check up on my legs to see if I could start walking again by myself.

I sat in the rehabilitation waiting area in my wheelchair next to Mark who was seated in a chair. I was nervously waiting, playing with my fingers and looking around trying to focus but I couldn't. Mark looked anxious too, all he wanted was to see my happy and being able to walk again might just make me happy again.

Callie met us in the waiting room and brought us into a new room that had exercise equipment.

"Alright, Grey. How have the legs been?" Callie asked whilst putting out my medical record to make reference too.

"Fine. I just want to walk again" I spoke

"Don't we all want that for you" she replied and moved me to a bar.

Callie helped lift me up as I placed two hands either side of the bar. Mark hovered over me scared to death that I might fall over.

I was instructed to start taking a few steps and I did. It was hard at first. My bones ached and were stiff from the lack of mobility. But I was able to keep going.

"You're doing amazing Grey. Do you feel confident enough to not use the bar?" Callie asked

Mark jumped in "don't you think it's a bit early for her? I don't want her to hurt herself."

I looked at Mark and smiled a bit "I'll be fine" I told him and I continued walking to Callie.

I lifted my hands off the bar and began talking steps forward. Mark had his hands right by my waist incase I fell or wanted to stop. Callie continued to walk back making me walk more.

Eventually we stopped because Callie didn't want me to be pushed but I wanted to continue. I sat back down in the wheelchair whilst Callie left to take some final notes on my progress.

"You did well Lex" Mark spoke whilst taking a seat next to me

"I hope so, I really want to be able to walk. I want to be back to my normal life. I want to leave this behind."

"I know you do Lex and I am hoping that today is the day where you can move on from this"

I nodded with a smile. Callie and Richard both walked it. I was confused as to why Richard was here.

"Hi Cheif" I greeted with confusion.

"So, how'd she do?" Mark asked

"Fantastic! Lexie is showing amazing strength and mobility." Callie spoke

I was overjoyed. A smile was spread across my face.

"Lexie is cleared to start walking but as soon as she is feeling tired, weak, or sore she must stop walking for the remainder of the day. Mark you must make sure this happens no matter how much Lexie says she is okay."

Mark nodded taking in all the information Callie was saying.

"So I'm cleared to walk but why is Webber here?" I asked

"I'm here to tell you that I am allowing you to slowly begin working again. I understand how rough this has been for you so I thought I would help." Webber spoke

'This is amazing' I thought to myself. I was so overjoyed about this news.

"Obviously, you will start with small part-time shifts. No surgery or ER cases just rounds and easy work to start off. Nothing excessive until you have been cleared by Callie first" Webber added

I nodded "thank you so much, like really thank you."

Webber and Callie both smiled. "You're welcome Lexie. But it was Mark who came up with it"

I was surprised that Mark brought this up to the chief. Usually he wouldn't do anything like this.

"I did this so you can be happy and I can keep an eye on you whilst you're here working".

"Thank you" I spoke making eye contact with Mark.

Callie and Richard left the room leaving me and Mark.

"Well that was great news"

"Great? It was amazing" I replied as Mark got up slowly helping me out of my wheelchair.

I stood up holding onto Marks arms.

"Goodbye wheelchair" I spoke as myself and Mark laughed.

We slowly made our way out of the rehabilitation centre and into the surgical area of the hospital. We sat down in the cafeteria Mark went up to get us lunch when April, Jackson, and Meredith walked by.

"Lexie! You're walking!" April screamed as she ran over.

I laughed and hugged her followed by hugging Jackson and Meredith. They all took a seat as at their lunch.

"So you're walking now Lex?" Meredith asked

"Yes!" I cheered "and I'm also coming back to work!" I added

"No way!" Jackson spoke

"That's so good. I can have my work sister back" Meredith smiled

I agreed and smiled. Mark soon walked back over with our lunch and we all ate together.
