An ambulance arrived quickly, and as Hua Jin was being lifted onto the stretcher, she heard the traffic officer asking the person who held the umbrella for her, "Do you know the person responsible for the accident?"

"I know."

"What about the injured person?"

"I don't know."

She drifted in and out of consciousness, and in her hazy state, she seemed to hear the voices of doctors and nurses conversing.

"Severe blood loss..."

"Tibia fracture, severe soft tissue damage around the joint."

"Prepare for anesthesia!"

When she opened her eyes again, she found herself lying alone on the hospital bed. The effects of the anesthesia hadn't worn off yet, and she couldn't help but feel nauseous, but her dry stomach couldn't expel anything.

Later, a patient's family member who was also in the clinic noticed her discomfort and called a nurse to assist her.

The nurse replaced her IV drip bag, seemingly aware that she didn't have a caregiver by her side. The nurse specifically instructed her to use the call button if she needed anything. And so, Hua Jin waited until the proxy lawyer for the traffic offender brought the traffic settlement agreement.

The proxy lawyer saw the blackened and emaciated Hua Jin lying on the bed, and as he sat beside her, he explained all the pros and cons. Essentially, as an insignificant outsider, she would face dire consequences if she truly offended these wealthy individuals.

"You're still young. Just endure certain things," the proxy lawyer said with a hint of reluctance on his face. "Last night, a kind-hearted passerby reported the incident. If you don't sign this settlement agreement, the offender will indeed face legal punishment. However, once he's released, you..."

"Is that kind-hearted passerby named Pei?" Hua Jin interrupted the proxy lawyer, staring at him intently. "Is he?"

"Sorry, I'm just the proxy lawyer for the party involved. I'm not familiar with unrelated individuals in this case," the proxy lawyer sighed. "Regardless of the passerby's identity, he has already reported the incident and paid for your medical expenses. Do you really want to involve him in all of this?"

"I understand," Hua Jin's expression gradually calmed. She was already a driftweed without support, how could she contend with raging storms? "As long as you're willing to reimburse the medical expenses to the kind-hearted passerby and cover the subsequent medical fees, I... will sign."

She signed her name on the settlement agreement and closed her eyes. "You can leave now."

"I'm sorry, this is a small gesture," the proxy lawyer sighed, placing something by her pillow before turning to leave. Hua Jin opened her eyes and saw several brightly colored banknotes. She clenched her teeth, holding back the urge to cry out loud.

Then, slowly, she reached out and tightly grasped the money.

She wouldn't die; she would live well, even if it meant bowing and compromising.

As Hua Jin stared at Xu Changhai with her darkened eyes, he couldn't help but take a step back. "Don't think that by getting close to Pei Yan, you can do whatever you want."

"When Mr. Xu hit me back then, intending to repeatedly crush me, wasn't that doing whatever you wanted?" Hua Jin tilted her head. "What? Does it mean that people with the surname Xu are naturally superior?"

Repeatedly crushed?

Xu Changhai enjoyed playing with cars, and he had been involved in accidents not just once or twice. He couldn't really remember who Hua Jin was as the victim of which accident. However, Hua Jin mentioned being crushed twice in front of him, and it was about six or seven years ago. Finally, he recalled something.
