thursday evening
Midori met me at the park again
i ran there, she walked Zuzu.
the sky was a pastel purple
clouds gliding past the rising moon.
i played with Zuzu but soon plopped down
weary from the day
the week
the year.
Midori told me that she had to be home early but she didn't want to leave,
didn't want to see her uncle.
i worried for her
but was also concerned for papa
who would be coming home any time soon.
the air grew cooler
as did Midori's mood as the time neared.
"will you be okay?" i asked carefully. "i don't know your uncle but-"
"i'll be fine. it's not what you think.
you're a good friend, Sora-chan."
my heart warmed at her words but wasn't quite settled.
what is she hiding?
but then again, everyone hides something.
i'll just have to be there when she reveals herself to me.
that's what i told myself.
