i wondered what sparked
her sudden change of heart
to talk to me.
but i wasn’t complaining.
she returned to her seat
and i could hear
their conversation resume
in heavy dutch.
i was curious
but luckily the language prevented
eavesdropping
otherwise i probably would have.
as Otousan and i were leaving
i caught her eye.
she smiled at me
and i smiled back
but i couldn’t help thinking
what does this mean?
are we just friends?
because if we were
i wasn’t sure how much longer
i could hold out
containing my feelings.
