You know me the best
You know my worst, see me hurt, but you don't judge
That, right there, is the scariest feeling.

~Why don't we.
......

|Chapter: 65|

"You told me it's not a date. So why bring me this?", I asked bluntly when I saw the small pumpkin key chain he placed on my open palm.

He grinned. "It's just a give gift from me for our new start.. as a friend."

I nodded as I lightly press it to my palm and turn to lock the door. Today is the first time I'm going out somewhere other than school or the diner after that day.

I raised my eyebrow at him when I didn't see his car or anything. Did he walk all the way to my house or maybe he took the bus. Honestly, I don't really care so I just walked to my car.

"I don't drive", he admittedly sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck, something he always did, I noticed.

"You don't or you can't?", I asked getting inside the driver seat as he took the shotgun. It was hard to believe that he preferred walking instead of driving unless he didn't know to drive.

"I can but I don't. I mean who will let go an opportunity of getting a ride from you", he smirked.

I ignored him and whatever he meant by that as I started the engine. After a long hard stare, I pulled my car out of the driveway. I promised myself that I will not think about him again and I have to say whoever said 'promises are meant to break' has never been more right. No matter how much I tried to pretend to be strong from the outside but I'm breaking. If loving someone can hurt this bad then I swear I'm not falling in this love trap ever again, I kept lying to myself when I knew my love for him will haunt me down in every step of my life and all I'll ever do is, fall for him over and over again. I can never hate him.

I mean, how do you forget your first love?

"Can we play some music?", he asked to kill the awkward silence. I nodded. My eyes straight on the never ending road through the big tall trees that stood proudly on the sides. No wonder this place is call Lockswood. Literally the whole place is surrounded by trees and it's like we live in a forest with civilised animals but not so civilised at the same time.

The sound of silence started to play and I was waiting for him to complain about the music.

"Simon and Garfunkel?", he asked surprised.

"I know I'm an old sack", I said rolling my eyes. I was tired of people judging my playlist, mostly Sarah.

"No. I love them. There were like the best duo from the 60's along with the beetles and the beach boys. I'm just surprise you listen to them. I mean very few people acknowledges their music these days... I thought I must be some freak to enjoy them and I also have an weird collection fetish for it", he went on rambling and it was quite a scene to watch him talking about something he loves with so much passion moving his hands along with it,  proving his enthusiasm.

"I love them too", I said smiling.

"Did you just smile at me?", he asked making me furrow my eyebrows at him confused. "I mean, for the first time since we met after ten years you actually smiled at me genuinely."

I felt a sudden guilt kick me in my guts. He was new in town and all these time I was nothing but straight rude to him. How can I forget my morals?

"I'm really sorry for the way I talked to you or ignored you. I thought you're a stranger and then Ni... nothing." I stopped myself from further ranting. It was still a sore topic for me to talk about.
