Your POV

The Great Waterfall Race was today.

The girls had woken up early to get ready, taking a team jog around the lake, upon Fiona's request. With a few groans from the other sleepy girls, nonetheless they completed their morning jog. They stretched and went over strategy, having a few pep talks in between when one of them started second guessing. As silly as it seemed, the race was a big deal. Yes, it was for a summer camp title, but the bragging rights and it being the last camp game was exhilarating

And of course, beating the boys was the goal.

We were dressed with our team shirt, wearing some good shorts for quick moving and to hold on to the rigorous checkpoints. We applied sunscreen and put our hair up, making sure it was secure and would not get in the way.

Since this was a team effort, we discussed our strengths as we went through the different courses that would be waiting for us ahead. The main thing was keeping up while we ran. The terrain, according to the girls, was uneven and bumpy. A wrong move could set us back, tumbling down a cliff. Exaggerating, but it was better to take precautions.

"I feel the win in my blood." Fiona exclaimed.

"I think that's your heart pumping from the jog." Marian huffed, wiping sweat off her forehead.

I laughed, and took more heavy breaths, trying to even out my breathing for the race. As the girls and I talked, I looked away for a bit, only to see Niall and his team up early and getting ready.

They were jogging, Niall being at the end to not leave anyone behind. His eyes were focused on the dirt path, making sure to slip or trip. If I was being honest, he looked great. Fit.

"(Y/N)? Are you listening?"

"Huh, what?" I shook my head, looking back at the girls.

"I told you she was looking at Niall." Josie nudged Fiona.

"No I wasn't!" I defended.

"Mhm, okay." Marian teased and the others followed right behind her teasing.

"Come on guys. I'm over it. We're here to beat his team anyway." I said.

"Yeah!" They cheered.

"GOOD MORNING CAMPERS! THE GREAT WATERFALL RACE IS TODAY! GET READY FOR BREAKFAST AND THE RACE RIGHT AFTER!" Beth yelled over the speakers that were connected around the camp perimeter.

"Let's go fuel up. We can't win on an empty stomach" I smiled, walking to the dining hall with the team walking by my side.

...

Breakfast was extra loud. All the teams seemed to be on their a-game. Everyone dressed in their colored team shirts, faces were focused and race ready. It was almost intimidating. Almost.

I decided on a light breakfast, not wanting to eat too much and get sick midway of the race. That would be gross and embarrassing.

"CAMPERS!" Beth yelled through her megaphone, standing in the middle of the dining hall.

Her booming voice startled everyone, I saw a kid even spill his milk.

"THE LAST CAMP GAME WILL BE TAKING PLACE SHORTLY. I JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW BEFOREHAND THAT YOU'RE ALL WINNERS REGARDLESS OF WHO CROSSES THE FINISH LINE FIRST."
