If Billy thought about it, everything started when he was six.

The boy had lost his parents only four months prior, and after living with his uncle Ebenezer for two weeks, a man who was not a kind man in any sense of the word, he was kicked out into the streets with an old plush tiger and the faded red sweater that hung off his body.

Fast forward two months and the 6-year-old is managing to live on his own-- asking for loose change, digging in the dumpsters, things like that.

Billy was sitting in the alley just outside a diner when a large shadow blocked the sunlight he'd been sitting in.

The young boy had looked up at the figure and found a rather imposing man in a navy blue suit with thick glasses resting on his nose.

The small raven wasn't sure whether it would be better to bolt or beg, and ended up just sitting in the snow and shivering.

The man, who introduced himself as Clark Kent, must have taken pity on him, as he invited the boy into the diner and bought him breakfast.

He learned during that time that Clark was a reporter for Metropolis, in Fawcett looking for a piece to do on his town's sister city. Billy gave him the idea of doing something on the homeless, since a lot of people didn't realize just how bad it was in Fawcett, and surprisingly Clark went with the idea.

Grown-ups never did that-- he liked Clark more already.

The reporter ended up staying around Fawcett for nearly an entire month, all the while Billy told him things about the city, things he'd learned on the streets, spots where they gave out food if there was any left at the end of the night, things like that.

Clark listened, asked questions, and wrote nearly everything down. It made the 6-year-old feel important, knowing this could maybe help some of his homeless friends.

Clark and Billy had been sitting in the diner they met at, the reporter watching Billy scarf down a whole plate full of food as he sipped at his coffee when Clark popped the question.

"Billy," he started, cupping his mug with both hands.

"What would you say if I... well, if I wanted to adopt you?"

The question made Billy nearly choke on his fries.

"Are- are you for serious Mr. Kent?" Billy asked, stars in his eyes as he looked across the table at the man. Clark simply smiled and nodded, taking a sip of his coffee.

The small raven beamed at the man, clambering out of the booth to climb into Clark's lap and hug him tightly.

One massive stack of papers later and Billy became the newest addition to the Kent family.

He met Clark's fiance, Lois Lane, not too long after-- Lois was also a reporter for the Daily Planet in Metropolis, and a lady whom he instantly fell a maternal bond with.

Sure, Lois would never replace his actual mother, but she was kind and sweet and held him when he scraped his knee or ran her fingers through his hair to help him sleep.

She was always there to reassure him, or to pick him up when he felt down, and loved him like he was her own.

All of this happened three years ago though. Billy was 9 years old now and fairly used to living in the Kent household. He went to school in Smallville, the small farm town where his dad grew up, and was always making friends- (even if most of those friends were four-legged).
