When he woke up the next morning, Siddharth found himself on the couch of his room, Shehnaaz was sound asleep, squeezed into the little space next to him on the couch. Half of her body rested on his and his arms were wrapped around her in a kind of protective manner that made him look at himself in surprise.

After he had half-heartedly cut that (absolutely gorgeous) birthday cake, He found out it was the most delicious piece of sweet that had ever touched his tongue, so much so that he was ready to break his strictly managed diet to have third and fourth servings of the cake.

(It was his birthday cake. He had the right over the largest chunk of it!!)

Somehow, after they were done with the impromptu midnight birthday celebration. Siddharth and Shehnaaz found themselves in the former's room alone and on a kind of sugar high.

Siddharth didn't really remember any details of what happened, all he did know was that it was the most beautiful start of his birthday he'd had in a long, long time. He remembered that they talked, for hours about the silliest of things, traded stories of work and life.

He remembered her falling asleep on his shoulder and remembered watching her, thinking about carrying her to his bed and then dropping the idea as the sugar high wore off, giving way to sleepiness.

He remembered kissing her forehead before his eyes drooped.

Siddharth smiled at the happy blur of memories, last night had been and carefully slipped out of the makeshift bed that they had unknowingly turned the couch into last night. Shehnaaz grumbled in protest, but it made Siddharth smile wider as he shifted her into a more comfortable position on the couch and brushed a few strands of hair out of her face.

She was something..

After he was done with his morning routine, He left the room to find his mother sitting on the couch chatting with Neetu Di, her daughter Samyukta and Preeti Di's twin boys Ishaan and Daksh.

"Good morning Ma." Siddharth greeted Rita Shukla with a broad smile on his face.

"Morning bacche. Raat ko theek se so gaye the na?" She asked softly.

Siddharth nodded. "Hello baccha party!"

"Happy birthday Mamu." The twins exclaimed in unison. Samyukta followed suit, although not in unison with the boys.

"Thank you Mamu ki jaans." Siddharth scooped the ten year old twins into his arms, kissing both their cheeks one by one while Samyukta pouted.

Siddharth chuckled at the scowled the eighteen year old had leveled him with. "Idhar aa mera baccha!" He beckoned her closer.

"Jab se yeh dono bandar aaye hai, meri value kam ho gayi hai!" She pouted.

Siddharth smiled. "Kya baat kar rahi hai Mukku! Tu toh meri princess hai. Mera pehla pyaar. Teri value kaise kam hogi?" He asked kissing the top of her head. "And now stop growing so tall. Mujhse lambi ho gayi na toh tujhe legally disown kar doonga!"

Mukku laughed, "I'm 5'4 Mamu. Aap taad ka ped ho mere saamne!"

"Tu toh mujhe 2 feet ki hi acchi lagti thi. mere haath mein aa jaati thi!"

Samyukta shook her head fondly. "You're crazy!"

"You love me anyway."

"Of course I do. Aapka pehla pyaar jo hu."

"Mamu, maami kahaan hai?" Ishaan asked, tugging at his shirt near his shoulder.

"Mami ander room mein hai, Ishu." Siddharth responded, putting him carefully on the ground along with his twin. "She is still sleeping."

"Hum mil nahi sakte unko?" Daksh asked.

"Uth jaayengi toh aap mil lena baby. Abhi she is tired right? So we'll let her sleep for a while longer." Siddharth explained patiently.

The twins nodded and scrambled back to the couch. Siddharth smiled.

"Nashta karna hai ya gym jaana hai pehle?" asked his mother as she stood up from the couch, walking towards the kitchen.

Siddharth shrugged.

"Pancakes bana rahi hoon." She told him.

"Shehnaaz khati hai?" Siddharth asked softly.

"I don't know. I never asked." Rita said softly. "Khaati hogi."

Siddharth shook his head. "I don't think so. Uska sweet-tooth subah-subah activate nahi hota. Subah subah toh apne doodh mein bhi cheeni bardasht nahi hai usse. Kal ka dinner bhi mere cake ka hi hua hai bechaari ka. Kucch aur banwaa lo. Pancakes kisi aur dinn khaa lenge."

She smiled, Siddharth had started to accept Shehnaaz as a part of his life and family. He had started to adjust his choices to coincide with hers, altered his tastes to match with her. He had started considering her as his wife. Started seeing her as Ishaan and Daksh's Mami.

It was a start, a good one.

"Aloo ke parathe banwa rahi hoon fir."

Siddharth sat next to his sisters, unlocked his phone and scrolled  through the never ending stream of birthday wishes from his fans. He couldn't help but feel blessed.

A few minutes later, Preeti turned to her mother. "Maa, Aap orphanage jaane waale the na aaj?"

"Haan. I'll go in the evening. Shehnaaz ne ek cake kal raat ko bhi bhijwa diya tha orphanage. Subaah mene Naashta banwa ke bheja tha. Siddharth tu bhi saath chal." Rita Shukla said softly.

Siddharth shrugged.

"Shehnaaz ka maayka dekh lena. Itni kahaaniyan hai uske paas orphanage ki.. abhi sunaane baithe toh 2 dinn lag jaayein!" Preeti said jokingly.

Siddharth chuckled and nodded in agreement.

"Inki engagement announce kar do aaj. Orphanage toh jaana hi hai. Digwijay uncle se baat kar ke date bhi nikalwa lo sagaai ke shagun ki!" Neetu suggested.

"Idea bura nahi hai. Kya kehta hai Siddharth?" Rita-ji asked.

"Aaj hi kara do sagai!" Siddharth shrugged nonchalantly.

The sisters giggled. "Neki aur pooch-pooch. Abhi phone uthao mummy, Karo phone uncle ko. Humaara ladka konsa sone-chaandi mein tulne ke khwaab saja ke baitha hai. Ek naariyal aur chaandi ke sikke se shagun karwaa ke Siddharth ko baandho Shehnaaz ke palle se!"

Siddharth smiled sarcastically. "Even if whatever you said is true, meri akele ki sagaai hai kya? Shehnaaz ke sapne nahi hai?"

Neetu smirked. "Don't you worry about that. Jab se tu usse pehli baar mila hai, tab se teri shaadi ki planning chal rahi hai yahan. Shehnaaz ka ek-ek sapna poora ho jaayega. Haan bol bas!"

"Okay. Haan."

The silence that followed, was deafening. Everyone looked at each other shocked. Did he just..

"I'm serious. Immediate family and very close friends are invited. I don't want media to know."

Preeti let out a surprised chuckle. "Alright then."
