Another roar sounded through the forest, and the coaches looked at each other before they looked at us with wide eyes filled with fear.

"I think it might be best for us to work inside today," Coach Mallory said before she cleared her throat and shifted on her feet. She looked into the woods and concern filled her eyes before she looked at us.

"What was that?" one of the humans asked, looking this way or that. Their heart pounded harder and faster in their chest, and they shuddered. "Was that a bear?"

I bit back a small snort and rolled my eyes. "Please," I said while I rolled my eyes again. "That was not a bear roar."

"And how do you know?" someone asked while they raised an eyebrow in question. "Do you know what that thing is?"

I bit back a small smile and shook my head, and Bryson looked at me through narrowed eyes as if he didn't believe me. "Not a clue, but I am pretty sure that it is something dangerous."

Again, there was another roar that resonated through the trees, and it sounded like it was getting closer and getting angrier with each passing second.

Shit...

The hair on the back of my neck stood at attention, and I had to bite my lip and keep myself rooted in my spot when the sudden urge to confront the Worber washed over me, pushing me to leave and to protect these people that I didn't know.

"Ok, let's get inside," Coach Mallory said before she cleared her throat and clapped her hands, gaining our attention. "So if everyone can grab their stuff, quickly and then let's go."

I held back an eye roll but did what I was told to do and went to grab my stuff, keeping my head cocked in the direction that the roars were coming from.

I could feel the tree people move closer to us and felt this sense of urgency that had me grabbing my stuff quicker and then moving closer to Bryson.

Bryson looked at me when I moved toward him but didn't say a word. He furrowed his brows and cocked his head while he studied me, and I raised an eyebrow in question.

"What?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper before I gave him a weird look. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Your eyes," he said, his voice also barely above a whisper, and I raised an eyebrow in question. "They are turning gold. Are you ok?"

I held back an eye roll before I slowly nodded in confirmation and set my jaw. "Yes," I said. "I am ok. Why wouldn't I be?" I raised the eyebrow higher in question while I stared at him.

Bryson scowled and narrowed his eyes. "Well, because your eyes are turning gold, Cass," he said. "That is why I am wondering if you are ok or not. Do they normally do that?"

"Possibly," I said and shrugged, grimacing. "Now, come on. We need to get going before something happens and comes after us."

As soon as I said that there was another loud roar that seemed closer to the group, and everyone except for me flinched and looked in that direction.

"Ok, does everyone have their stuff?" Coach Mallory asked while she looked at us. "We need to get in, now."

"What is that?" one of the humans asked. "What type of animal is that?"

Something that I do not want to see again, I thought while I pursed my lips in annoyance.

"It doesn't matter," Coach Mallory said and shook her head. "All you need to know is that we need to go inside, now."

"Does everyone have everything?" Coach Myers asked when there was another roar of anger from this Worber that was still getting closer.

"Yes, Sir," we said in unison and nodded.

"Good, then let's go."

And with that, we hurried inside with me being one of the last people because even though I shouldn't know about these things, I still did, and I was not going to let them attack my new group with or without my say.

Bryson waited for me to enter the building with a small frown on his face. He didn't say a word, and I raised an eyebrow in question.

"What?" I asked and cocked my head, studying him. "What's with that frown?"

"Why did you decide to be the last person?" he asked, not answering my question. "Are you trying to get yourself killed?"

I bit back a small snort and held back an eye roll. "Oh, please," I said. "I wasn't going to get killed. They were still far away from us and getting angrier and angrier for some reason. Something was making sure that they wouldn't get to us."

Maybe because there were multiple tree people watching over us and trying to make sure that the Worber wouldn't get to us... I thought, pressing my lips into a thin line.

"Aren't you worried?" he asked and cocked his head, studying me. "Or are you scared?"

"No," I said and shook my head. "I am not scared. I am also not worried."

"Why not? You can get killed. You aren't immortal."

I bit back a small snort and shrugged. "I know that I am not," I said. I shifted my bag from one shoulder to the other. "But that doesn't mean I can't try to be." I flashed him a small smirk, and he bit back a small snort and shook his head.

He grew serious before he cleared his throat and looked at the coaches, who were talking to each other in quiet voices before he looked at me. "Are you going to scout and see what it is?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

I bit back another small snort and shook my head, grimacing. "I can't," I said coldly, and he raised an eyebrow in question. "I have a lot of stuff to do, and I don't think it will be worth it yet."

"Yet?" Bryson asked, and I bit back a small smirk. He narrowed his eyes and scowled, amusement filling his eyes. "What do you mean by yet?"

"Don't worry about it, Bryson," I said and shook my head before I cleared my throat, growing serious. "Don't worry. It's nothing bad."

And with that, I walked away from him to put my stuff up so that I could train, knowing full well that one day I would have to deal with this Worber, no matter what they say or try to do to stop me.

Hopefully in their eyes they will see me as Cassandra as they see me as Cassidy before I do...
