Jesse

Just my luck. I arrived last in front of the karaoke bar. But that wasn't the worst part. I just came up when I heard James ask about Lennox's date. Did everyone know about that? I stuffed my hands in my front pockets as I gritted my teeth. I was surprised I haven't gritted them to stumps yet by now.

"So, a little birdie told us you had a date yesterday."

"That little birdie -" She glanced at Bryn. Sometimes he had a hard time keeping things to himself. "Tossed it in our WhatsApp group. I'm surprised you didn't bombard me with questions right then and there."

I totally forgot about the WhatsApp group. I am in that one, but I snoozed the notifications years ago, only glancing it from day to day. I honestly didn't even know she was in it. I wanted to check the group, but Tristan piped up, dragging my attention back to my former team.

"Oh no, darling." He smirked. "We wanted to bombard with you with questions in person."

"And we all want to know if you're off the market and we lost our chance." Louis said, clutching his chest. "Please, don't break our precious little hearts, Lennox Fae Watson."

Her back was towards me, but I knew she just rolled her eyes with an affectionate smile. "I think it's a bit soon to say I'm off the market, we only had one date." I let out a relieved breath. "But we're going on a second date next week."

Some whooped, others faked heartache. For me it felt like real heartache. I didn't want to whoop at all. It was not for me to say, but Charlie had a reputation of only going on first dates. So, her going on a second one with him should be big.

"Where did he take you?" James asked.

"Wield it!" She was bouncing excitedly on her heels. "It would actually be perfect for you guys. I just put on a post on my two Instagram accounts. The opening is next week. You should all go."

Some were already on their phones checking it out. Tristan grinned a little. "So, did you kiss?"

For fuck's sake, how old where they? Drilling her about her date, asking if they kissed. I didn't need to know that, or whatever else they had done. And they shouldn't either. I was happy when Daniel spotted me.

"The captain has arrived." He smiled, waving me over. Everyone looked to me. Lennox turned slowly on her heel. She blinked a few times, seeing me standing there. Probably wondering what I heard but then she walked over with a smile.

"Hey, you." She looped her arm through mine. All the while the entire team and Amara looked at us. We started towards the entrance. "Ready to break some eardrums?"

I couldn't look away from her. I couldn't help but chuckle. I couldn't help but hold on to her. But it my head it said: Step back! Step back! Step back! But I didn't.

Once we were in our private room, Bryn and Jake went to order drinks for everyone. I sat down next to Lennox, my leg pressing against hers.

"You - uhm – you look good tonight." I said. She didn't answer at first, her eyes strained on the ones who were flipping through the song books. Then;

"Thank you." She looked at me, her face unreadable. "The wedding is soon, are you nervous?"

"No."

Something shifted in her eyes. "That's good. That means you're marrying the right one." I thought I heard her voice break in the end.
