--Chapter 8--

It was days like this that made Harling Springs so beautiful. Waking up in the morning to the pretty, bright blue skies with no clouds in the way to ruin the day. Not even the blinding sun was visible enough to bother me. This was one of those mornings which I liked. Where everything wasn't overboard, the sun wasn't shining too bright, and the sky was a pure, perfect color. It was utterly impeccable.

"You ready?" Mom appeared, egressing from the front door as she turned around to lock it.

"Yep." I popped the 'p', turning for a brief look at my reflection through the car window. Now that I though of it, I should've put my hair up in a bun. Today's not really the best hair day for me.

My mom walked over to the car, opening the passenger door as we both got in. Something felt so strange about this-- maybe because this time, it was me in the driver's seat instead of my mom. Yeah, I've done this before with her on the side, but this time I knew that she wasn't required to be right next to me.

After a while of passing the same surroundings from my everyday route to school, the car was finally parked at a parking lot.

"So, I'm gonna take your car while I go shopping and come pick you up after school." My Mom's car was getting fixed this morning, so she had to use my car, which I guess is a total downside for today. But I guess I'll have Daisy all to myself tomorrow.

"That's fine."

She transitioned herself to the other side of the car, the driver's side while I handed her the keys. "I didn't know that he was a student here." I heard her say, with a light astonishment in her voice.

I was a bit bewildered on what she was talking about, so I turned around thoughtlessly to see the body she was referring to. "Oh. Yeah. That's um, Harry."

"I remember him at the movies." She stated. "He's fairly attractive."

The first time she saw him, she said he was cute, now again. "Oh, no Mom." I laughed. "Please go."

She smiled at me quickly. "Have a great day at school." She giggled. The car and my Mom were gone within a minute to my luck.

I met Nina at our lockers along with Joey as they were making a conversation about whatever. I walked towards them, interrupting them. "Hi."

"Hi." Joey smiled at me warmly.

A part of me still thinks that Joey likes me and that's the part that feels a bit of sympathy for him. But there's also a part that wants to forget about it completely and just hopes that he'll move on.

"So, what were you guys talking about?" I questioned them as I started to unlock my locker in till it successfully opened.

"She wants to ask Harry out--" Joey started before Nina cut him off.

"Don't you think it's a bit unfeminine to ask him first?" Nina asked me worriedly.

At first I was surprised from her word choice. Usually she'd use something like 'manly' or 'not girl-like', but this time she used a word a little bit out of her vocabulary, unfeminine. Yay Nina! "Ah, Nina. Don't worry. There's nothing wrong with the girl asking the guy first. It shows confidence." I told her, not bothering to look at her as I was too busy setting my stuff in my locker.

"So should I ask him?" She questioned me eagerly.

"Yeah, just make sure--"

"Mel." Joey warned me.

Just finishing taking out my books for first period, I rotated around and to my dismay, Joey was the only one right in front of me. Nina was already yards away, speaking to Harry.
