--Chapter 34--

I washed my face in the sink of the girls' bathroom, watching the water drip as the little bit of makeup ran off with it. I didn't care because school had finished not too long ago. All the students had left, even some of the teachers and I have yet to know why I'm still here.

I patted my face with the napkin and tied my hair to the side, tucking my bangs back with a bobby pin. I put my things back into my school bag before pulling it over my shoulder and walking out the bathroom.

The hallway was empty, a little more frightening than with the stampede of students. I heard the sound of keys jingling, which drew my attention towards the old creepy janitor unlocking my second period teacher's room. He stared at me before disappearing into the room. The door closed and I took it as a sign to walk quickly towards the exit doors of the school at the end of the hallway.

As soon as I came to meet the glass doors, I pulled on them and unfortunately, they were locked. I cursed under my breath, annoyed that I'd have to leave from the front office, which was on the opposite side of the school. But before I could think any further, I heard a shuffle behind me. I turned around frantically, only to find the same empty passage way.

"Hello?" I called out. It could've only been my imagination because I doubt it was a person, since no one appears to be here with me.

I heard another noise come from the only opened classroom door in the whole hallway. It sounded like something fell. Or maybe it can be the janitor, though it's weird that he was in the room down a couple doors from the room the noise definitely came from.

"Is everything okay?" I questioned, only yards away from the door. I'm too much of a scaredy-cat to walk faster and see for myself.

I took another step, pausing immediately as I felt something under my foot. I looked down to see a silver necklace on the floor and my first instinct was to pick it up. It was very thin and pretty, with a word written on it that I couldn't figure out. Before thinking about taking it to the lost and found at the front office, I heard a sudden footstep that sounded awfully close to behind me that made my heart jump.

I knew no more when I felt cold hands grip around my neck from behind me. I couldn't figure out what was happening when my instant reaction took over and I immediately attempted to pull off the hands of the disembodied figure off of me, but his grip was unyielding. As his grip became terrifyingly tight, my lungs began to burn from lack of air. I closed my eyes hopelessly for five seconds before they shot wide open.

I was breathing short, heavy breaths as the sweat was racing down my face. I was mortified and hyperventilating. My hands were clutched around my bed sheets, and that's when I realized that I was in my room- back home. The sight of my bedroom reassured my safety, knowing it was just a dream. Although, I still felt the burning sensation in my throat, an urge to cough coming over me. I was desperate for the oxygen that I was so scared of loosing just seconds ago.

I fell back on my bed, breathing more calmly and normally before my breath hitched from the sound of my alarm going off next to me. I sighed, relieved it was just my alarm.

I stopped the piercing noise as I stood up and made my way to the bathroom to get ready for school. It's funny, I don't even remember going to sleep last night. I must've knocked out when I was watching a old black an white movie on the TV. Mom hadn't even came home yet since she had the late shift, which meant I haven't seen her since the hospital.

After putting on the pair of old Nike's that were in the back of my closet, I made my way downstairs. Mom was on the dining table doing papers in her robe. I'm guessing she's not working today.
