Chapter Twenty Nine

Emma

Two long days had passed and I was still stuck on the other night. With every passing minute I grew more disgusted with myself and what I had done. Not to mention the fact that I had already given into him twice more. I shuttered at the thought of what Beau would have to say if he found out. Of course, he would be upset. The same way I would be upset if I found my suspicions were true about him and Neely. It would rip my heart into, but hell what could I really say?

            Not a thing.

I wiped off the sweat beads from my forehead while changing Mrs. Faye’s bed sheets. She watched me closely with a small smile on her lips, “Child, you look like hell today.” She murmured, with that same scratchy voice all older people have. At that moment, I wondered how she could ever be my favorite patient at Meadowbrook’s. However, I guess I loved the fact that she was so blunt. About everything. Slowly, I raised my eye sight up to her small framed body. Mostly she reminded me of the little old lady off of The Golden Girls. Her round glasses covered her eyes that were wrinkled and I smiled. Mrs. Faye was maybe 4’9 and tiny framed. I giggled at the fact that her poor feet didn't even touch the ground as she sat in her rocking chair. And I thought I was short.

I couldn’t help but laugh a little while I put one of the pillows in the pillow case, “Just a bad day Mrs. Faye.” I murmured.

She laughed while changing the channel of the TV, “It could be worse. At least you aren’t stuck in this hell hole like me. Just telling you, make sure you have children that are willing to take care of ya when you get old.”

I giggled a bit, while walking over to the window frame to pick up her old flowers that were sitting in the windows. “If can’t be that bad here Mrs. Faye. You have tons of friends.”

She huffed, “They are all crazy…” She said while turning towards me and motioning to come her way. Slowly, I put the flowers back down and walked towards her. “…They are trying to kill me.”  She whispered trying to keep a secret, like someone could actually here her. She was always like this though.

I tried to hold back my laugher; Mrs. Faye was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s last year. Mostly, I felt terrible for the woman but I couldn’t help but think her crazy ideas were kind of funny. “Who is trying to kill you?” I whispered back while smiling, so I wouldn’t make her mad.

She rolled her eyes and sat back in her seat. “Everyone! The doctors, other patients. Someone is out to get me!”
