Beau
The agonizing screams of my beautiful wife filled my ears and I couldn't help but feel terrifed at that one moment. I almost felt as if I were being ripped out of my body to watch Emma birthing our first child from afar. However, I could only imagine the look on my face as I looked down to see her eyes squeezed shut as her hand grabbed ahold of mine and squeezed the ever living shit out of it. Her grasp was almost painful enough to run off all of my uncertainties about being an unfit father. Although, as I tried my best to calm her by taking deep breaths with her, I looked down to our hands that were linked together. A faint smile formed on my lips and I couldn't help but notice that the feel of her soft hand in mine still gave me the same tingling sensation that it had the first night we were together, five long years ago.
Then, my eyes traveled from our linked hands to her bulging belly, images from the night we had conceived our baby filled my mind. Nine months ago, we had spent seven whole days of doing nothing but indulging in passionate love making on our honeymoon in Turks & Ciacos . Of course it was passionate! We had both vowed to each other a year before our wedding that we wouldnt have sex again until our wedding night-to make it special. At the time it seemed like a great idea. However once the night came, we were both so caught up in each other that condoms or any other kind of thought about protection had escaped both of our minds.
Plus, a small part of me almost wanted this. During the past five years, there hasn't been a day that I didn't think about the baby we had lost and I couldn't deny that it was painful. It was almost like there was always something missing. Don't get me wrong, being with Emma filled my life with a kind of happiness that no one else would ever be able to fill but I couldn't help but notice her facial expressions when we would pass a mother with her baby. Deep down, I knew this was what she wanted as well. It was what we both wanted, even if it wasn't exactly...planned.
Pulling myself away from my thoughts, I looked over to the grey headed doctor with thick rimmed glasses. He wasn't my father and I didn't exactly like the fact that my wife was in care with practically a stranger. She was fragile and every other docter we had tried in the Vineyard believed that after her accident, it would be incredibly stupid to go through with keeping the baby but this particular docter beleived. He deserved some credit because here we are having our baby.
Another piercing scream fled from Emma's lips and I jumped back, feeling slightly hot and startled. The docter laugh slightly at my expression, "The first birth is always a little....unsettling for the husband." The docter looked towards the nurse, "Why don't you go grab Mr. Bradford some ice water."
A frown took over my face as one of the nurses nodded and left the room. It was crazy, how calm he seemed. It was almost like he thought it was a piece of cake. I cleared my throat and swallowed hard, "I'm....I'm fine. You just pay attention to my wife and child." I said while looking down to Emma.
He shrugged and turned his attention to Emma, "Now Emma, this time I am going to need you to give me one really hard push. Its all almost over. On the count of three. One..."
Emma grabbed my hand tightly and cried out, "I can't! I can't do it anymore!"
My heart cried out for Emma because I knew she was in pain. At the beginning, she said she wanted a natural birth and that she didn't want to be doped up on pain meds. "Come on baby only one more push, you can do it." I told her softly while caressing her cheek with my thumb.
She shook her head violently and looked up at me with a pair of wide, scared blue eyes. "I can't!" She screamed out, "I need the pain medication now! Please give it too me!" She pleaded to the doctor.
The doc immediately shook his head, "Sorry, sweetheart we've gone too far for all that. Now, one big push."
Tears seeped out of my wife's eyes and I couldn't help but frown, "Come on baby, its almost over."
'One..." The doctors voice filled my ears and I couldn't help the death grip that Emma had on my hand had only gotten tighter. "Two...Three!" I looked down to Emma to see sweat gliding down her neck while her face turned completely red from all the straining. A scream tore from her lips, but after a couple of moments, the sound of a baby crying filled my ears. My heart skipped a couple of beats and I felt over joyed, I never thought I would actually be here but here I am. With Emma. "Congratulations! Its a little baby girl!" After a few minutes the docter laid our baby in Emma's arms and I looked down with my arms around both of them.
My lips pressed up against Emma's sweaty forehead, "You did amazing baby... Now I have two beautiful women in my life."
Emma's eyes stayed strictly on the little girl laying in her arms, "She's so beautiful, Beau!"
I couldn't help but laugh, "She is going to look exactly like her mother."
After a while of spending time with my two wonderful women, a elder nurse walked in. She looked straight to Emma and smile warmly, "Hun, you should probably get some rest."
Emma giggled as she cooed playfully with our little girl, "I know! I just don't want to let go of her to sleep!"
"Oh! That reminds me, did guys ever pick out a girl name?" She asked, curiously.
Emma looked up to me and I smiled, "Eden, we are naming her Eden Grace." I told the nurse, proudly.
"Hmmm, that is different. Let me guess, its traditional family name?"
"No, its not. The meaning of the name Eden is perfect, and I have to say, she is more than perfect."
