 Chapter Forty-Three: Part 2

Beau

I sat in a cab for a long time after I watched the midnight flight back to California take off. Part of me felt bad for making Laken travel alone, well actually I felt like the biggest dickhead alive but for some reason, it didn’t matter because Laken wasn’t the one I was supposed to spend my life with. As I stared out of the cab window, I noticed the snow starting to fall in little bitty pieces and I smiled. I knew I was doing the right thing, I had to be.

Finally, I looked up to see the cab driver staring intensely at me. “Take me to 1221 North Sunset Avenue. Take any shortcut you can find, please. I’m in a hurry.”

It was Emma’s house. My eyes glanced down to my watch, in hopes that I would find that it’s not too late to be banging on her door but late or not, I am getting her back tonight. I don’t care what I have to do. After seeing the couple standing in front of me, I realized that for the past six months I have felt nothing but suffocated and numb. There wasn’t a part of me that wanted to spend another minute feeling that way.

As the driver sped off down the street, I held onto the door handle tightly. My palms were sweaty and I felt completely nervous, but I couldn’t let that stop me. As of right now, I wouldn’t let anything stop me. I needed her. I needed her more than anything and I hate myself for just not realizing it. Honestly, I don’t even know how I made it the past months with Laken because they were both completely different.

Finally after thirty minutes passing, the cab came to a halting stop in front of the brick town home that Emma grew up in. Hell, the one I practically grew up in with her. It was the home where we had first made love and started what we did. I couldn’t deny the fact that being in front of this home brought up beautiful, everlasting memories that I never wanted to let go of. I wouldn’t. After a moment of studying her home, I threw some cash at the cab driver and swiftly opened the door. I had no clue what I was going to say or do, but I would crawl on my knees if I had too.

I stepped out of the cab and slowly walked up the front steps of her home and pounded on her front door. The wait for someone to open the door was completely agonizing, and I couldn’t help but feel somewhat jittery. However, as the door opened, I wasn’t looking at Emma.

As the door opened wider, I caught myself looking into the eyes of Aden Lancaster. I couldn’t help but laugh at her ruffled up bed hair and sleepy eyes. “Beau, what the hell? It’s almost one thirty in the morning!” He said, trying his best to sound like a stern father figure but we both knew he wasn’t. Mr. Lancaster had always been extremely laid back and more of a friend.

I smiled slightly, “Aden, I have to see her. I need to speak to Emma.” I told him, hoping like hell he would understand and just let me in.
