I stumbled through the pearly white gates, still scared and confused. My death had come as quite a shock to me, and I was still not over the fact that I would never dwell on earth again. The room that I was now in was a glowing, yet not blinding, white that was bright and comforting. The only thing I could see was a large desk at the far end of the room, so naturally, I approached it.

"Hello!" I asked timidly, reaching the desk and looking around for someone. I heard a creak to my side and whipped my head around just in time to see an average-heightened man with fiery red hair approach me. "Hi, I'm Gerard. You must be Y/N."

I stared at him, still disoriented. "Where am I? And... how do you know my name?"

"We've been waiting for you!" He said kindly. "And, as for where you are, you're in Heaven right now. If you haven't remembered yet, you lost your earthly life last night."

"My earthly life?"

"Yes," he began, putting a warm hand on my shoulder and leading me closer to the desk where he began to go through some papers. "You have an earthly life, which lasts for a very short amount of time, and an eternal life afterward."

"Oh." My lip was quivering. What about my family and friends? Would I ever see them again? In this 'eternal life', if that's really what it was, will I have to just start all over again?

"I can see that you're nervous," Gerard said, a smile tugging at his lips. "Luckily for you, though, me and the other workers here have been doing this for quite a long time. We have a system now, and everything is going to be taken care of."

He came around the desk and took my hand. It wasn't until then that I saw the large, white, glowing wings protruding from his back. My eyes widened. "Are... are you a... an angel?"

He laughed. "Don't look so alarmed. You'll meet many angels while you are here. Speaking of angels, I would like you to meet your assistant."

He lead me to a door and opened it widely. I was met with the view of what looked like an absolutely normal town. It felt almost like I was back on earth. I looked around and saw a man, taller than Gerard, with curly brown hair approach us. "This is your assistant Ray. He's going to help you become accustomed to your eternal life."

"Hi," said Ray quietly. Like Gerard, he had angel wings too. I looked at the rest of him, and for some reason, felt a strong connection. Compelled, I moved closer to him.

"Hi," I replied back, now very close.

"Well," Gerard said. "I've got some other work to be doing and I know that Ray has a lot to show you, so I think I let you two do your thing, yeah?"

I turned around, now facing Gerard. "Thank you. You're really nice, and... just, thanks for your help."

He laughed his graceful laugh. "It's my job, dear." With that, he turned and walked away.

"So," Ray began as I turned back around to face him. "Why don't I show you where you'll be staying?"

I nodded mutely and let him lead the way. For some reason, just like before, I felt drawn to him. I wanted to be close to him, even touch him. It crossed my mind for a moment that maybe it was just something that happened when a human is close to an angel, but then I realized that I didn't feel that way with Gerard.

Ray lead me down a normal-looking road; houses lined it and people were walking on the sidewalks. I even saw a short man with black hair walking his dog.

We continued to walk in silence until we reached a house. "This is yours," he said, stepping aside so I could get a better view. My eyes went wide. No, it wasn't a mansion, but it was the kind of house that I had always wanted. A small, but two-story, cottage. "Wow," I replied to Ray. "It's really nice."

He laughed. "We have a tendency to know what kinds of things people like when they come here. You must have had some kind of 'dream house' in mind, and this must be it."

"Yeah," I laughed dryly. I looked up to meet his gaze and was shocked to see his eyes. I couldn't tell if I had just avoided eye-contact before and it was the first time I was seeing them, or if they were brighter than before. He continued to look into my eyes, a small smile still apparent on his face.

"Do you want to go inside?" he asked. His voice felt like water and I was dying of thirst.

I nodded, almost in a trance.

I followed him inside, keeping close behind him. When we walked through the door, though, I couldn't even look around to see what the interior of the home looked like.

It was like my eyes were literally glued to his image.

In that moment, it was like I couldn't breathe. My eyes began to water as I tried to gasp for air but couldn't. I wanted to say something, wanted to ask for help, but my lips wouldn't move. "Y/N? Y/N?" I heard Ray's voice call from what felt like far away although he was right in front of me. I tried to look, tried to see his face, but a bright light was blocking my sight. It felt like I was dying. That was until I felt a warmth on my lips.

The warmness traveled through my body, taking away my paralysis. I could feel my body again. I nearly tensed up again, though, when I realized where the warmth had come from.

Ray had kissed me.

He pulled away, looking at me. "I'm sorry," he said immediately leading me over to a chair where we both sat down. "I hope you don't mind, it's just..." he trailed off for a moment and took a deep breath. I nodded at him in encouragement, having control over my body again. "It's just that when you first meet your, well... soulmate," he cleared his throat. "You usually can tell by this feeling in your chest, or like, a need to touch them or be close to them. If you resist the feeling, though, your body well... kind of shuts down. It can't live without being so close to your soulmate and not being shown love by them."

"So," I answered after a minute, my eyes wide. "You're saying that we are soulmates?"

He nodded, a blush forming on his cheeks. "I should have said something when I first met you. I kind of felt this feeling but just passed it off. Based on how shocked you are too, you obviously didn't know that that's how soulmates work." he smiled.

"Yeah," I responded, my voice hoarse. "I had no idea."

We sat in silence for a few seconds before Ray, once again, broke the silence. "So," he said, avoiding eye-contact, the blush still on his cheeks.

"Would it be weird," I interrupted quickly, not able to contain myself. "If... if I asked you to kiss me again?"

He looked at me, our eyes now locked. I felt a feeling in my chest again. We both smiled.

Without answering, he leaned in and we kissed.

"Maybe death isn't so bad," I laughed as we pulled away from each other.
