What was he doing here?

Valendard stood there, his eyes froze on mine, flickering constantly between my revealed neckline and my face. I could visibly see the struggle to not stray his orbs south.

Strange fluttering swirled in the pit of my stomach. His smoldering gaze lit a new fire on my burning inside.

This was not good. Not. Good.

Soft breeze grazed past me when I finally became aware of my... condition. With wide eyes, I swiftly turned around and grasped the marble railing of my balcony. Momentary bliss didn't take time to turn into intense pain as a jolt of searing hot burn traveled throughout my body.

I clenched my eyes shut, gripping the cool marble in a vain hope to soothe my misery.

"Sorry to barge into your chamber this late at night," his deep voice softly grumbled behind me. "But lord Galvin told me I need a new assignment. You were not out of your wing for a few days so I had to come here."

I bit my lips hard, not letting out the building groan in my throat.

"Clear head, Queen. You need that." Vena chirped from somewhere behind me.

I nodded.

I gulped down a dry lump before speaking up. Sweat trickled down my head.

"Your next assignment is until further notice." I might or might not have groaned a little at the end.

Valendard must have heard the mishap.

"Uh, are you alright there?"

Another jolt of red hot burn and I hissed out loud.
